LAX & SFO have the most flights. Where in the islands are you going to? Your options would be AA, DL, UA & HA. AS and HA also have many flights from other west coast airports - SEA, SAN, SNA, SEA, PDX & LAS. US is another option from PHX. Feel free to check back here a few days before for load info as you get closer to the departure date.
Some things that may help are the airline you work for, what agreements you have with them, and where you're currently located. Also, are you stuck on HNL, or are other islands a possibility?
AS flies from SJC/OAK/SMF as well.
I certainly hope you aren't traveling anytime close to Memorial Day...
May might be good, but right now, its SPRING BREAK and it will be a SOB to get out of HNL as standby. Getting there might not be a problem, but trying to leave will. I avoided HNL on my way back the other day from the Western Pacific. Flights were wide open from GUM-HNL. It seemed like there were 33 seats open to SFO the same day but I didn't want to roll the dice, when I had "Smooth sailing" from NRT-SFO with 77 seats open. I did pay with a seven hour layover in NRT but I viewed that as sort of breaking the trip down and a certain stress free slam dunk nonrev smooth sailing. I know you said in MAY so I don't know how that looks then. Weather won't be as nice as it was when I went through a couple of weeks ago.
PDX is a good option too..
I was able to go from LAX-OGG with no problem then just EZED with Hawaiian to HNL if you cant make it directly to HNL.
Appreciate all the advice. I am a WN employee, so I will have to buy ZED tickets. I was looking for the best options, and it looks like DL Hawaiian, and Alaska fly some pretty good frequency from the West Coast. I liked the tip about getting to OGG on Hawaiian, then onto HNL, which is my final destination.
Anyone with experience flying USAir from PHX, or AA from DFW?
