Oooooh boy was it ever an adventure.
Field trips can be good or bad, but they're always an adventure! I just spent a month bouncing around Europe and the middle east, and it was one of my best trips ever!
That was actually my second run to AMA but its been about ten years or more since my last. This time I was there a bit longer, got to see a bit more. It takes about 1.5 hours to get there by jet from IAH, and if you were in the North East, you would be in Canada if you took off say from Washington DC. So this is a big state and AMA lays in the panhandle of Texas. I really didn't take a tour of the city, but I did get on I-40 saw the BIG TEXAN STEAK HOUSE, and passed that to my hotel. From hotel, I took a walk about .75 of a mile to a Golden Corral. It's always interesting to see other people from other cities. I would say that 80 percent of the folks I saw in there were Mexicans/or TexMex, and I saw a couple of eccentric looking cowboy types one guy must have weighed 500 pounds, about 6 ft 4 and had that famous Texan ten gallon hat. But. I don't mean to judge a city by going inside a Golden Corral, however, it was quite interesting.
Here is that BIG TEXAN steakhouse link for Amarillo.

Other industries there seem to be WINDMILLS, also PANTAX. They assemble, and disassemble nuclear war heads and perform maintenance on them. There is also Bell Helicopter plant there and they have an airplane paint shop run by Leading Edge Aviation Services (with other locations throughout the U.S.). Of course, hotels, restaurants and Amarillo Independent School District. Gets cold up in the panhandle in winter. They have an elevation of plus 3000 feet, in the High Plains, flat, and west of tornado alley.
I should make it a point to return to AMA one of these days, rent a car, go see PALO DURO canyon try the steakhouse and brewery, probably just hang for a day or two, would be a nice trip.
Nonetheless, i am back in el salvador. Always nice to be here. Pretty place gr8 people. I will be back here again sooner than later. I may hit volcan de san salvador before i book.
Cleaning? Fillings?
I wanted to hit the volcano on my way out but the rain took over that day, and visibility would not have been favorable. All I can say about the dentist down there is that they are professional, very attention detail orientated, very caring and they make you feel like you are in good care. The price is a fraction of what you pay for here in the states. I am not telling everyone to do down there and do what I do. I find that you must be able to get by in Spanish to discuss your issues with the dentist. Their English is not there at least not the dentist I see. You still have to get a room for a few days depending on work you need done, (which is still cheaper than getting your teeth done in the U.S. even with out of pocket and with insurance.) My thinking is that I'd rather spend time in El Salvador on a vacation, stay in a fancy hotel, give the wife the spa treatment at VIDALS go see volcano's, and in the end, still come out ahead than giving the money to the dentist here in the US so he can drive his corvett and visit El Salvador.
But here is the main thing. I trust my dentist in El Salvador more than I would any dentist in my area. They take me in right away, no appointment needed, always glad to take me in, with extreme attention to detail and caring. Total professionalism and politeness. Their schools of dentistry in El Salvador is NO JOKE.
I was checking out information about dentistry cost around the world, and guess who has the highest cost than all? The USA of course. What does this tell you? Do you really think that the U.S. does the best dental work than the rest of the world? Do you really think our dentist in the U.S. are the best?
