When you have to start taking things off to get to a line or a hose, or whatever, of course, it adds work to the situation. Well, at least you got it fixed. Pain in the butt but its done. I thought I had a heater core issue not long after I changed a heater core only to find out it was coming out of the water pump gasket. I bought a new water pump and changed the pump and put a new gasket because I figured that it was probably time for the pump to go soon. Since the gasket was rotted away. Car was over ten years old at the time. To my surprise, the pump was still in good working order, but the hell with it, changed it anyway. And this crap about draining the radiator before you do this......to hell with that too. I'll just let the radiator spill to the level of the water pump since the pump sat above the radiator or at least level to it. Why risk braking a drain cock on the radiator that is probably old and corroded, now you have two problems. Then having to reseal the radiator with radiator sealant. Experience my friend.
I've done my share of alternators. Not a bad job. Only thing is figuring out at times where to put your breaker bar to the belt pulley to loosen the belt and slide the serpentine belt off. Some are tight, hard to see and vary from car to car. But once you know your car, there it is you will know. Here is a word of advice. You want a quality alternator, go to NAPA PARTS. Forget the others. You'll pay top dollar for it but the parts are that much better. Old man aircraft mechanic told me that a long time ago. And he was right. After my Napa alternator, never had another issue. Forget the for life time warranty parts at Auto Zone or O'reilly's. They kick you off the system when you least expect it. You have to provide your own proof and keep all receipts. Napa is a cut above.
