Hi,
Just wondering if Lufthansa upgrades to business (space available) if you buy an ID 90? Or an ID 75? We are flying to Johannesburg and are looking for the least uncomfortable way to go.
Thanks, Dawn

No, not unless coach is full.
Normally LH don't voluntarily upgrade for OA ID90 and ID75 ( ZZ fare tickets )however I am not sure what their policy is in respect of travel if you are a member of a Star Alliance partner airline.
Thanks Randy and Paul,
For some strange reason I thought LH did upgrade at one time. We're One World so BA is the way to go price wise. They never upgrade so we thought that we would go through FRA if we could get the upgrade.
Cheers! Dawn
Before you buy your ID-90 check with your pass bureau. Ours had a deal where a confirmed ticket on LH was cheaper then the ID-90.
If you were considering LH then check in to their partner, UA. They do upgrade.
As you can bye ID tktĀ“s for c/cl on LH, if you are staralliance staff. I think it would be a little unfair to upgrade psgrs, that only have payed M/cl fare.
So I understand, that they are stricht with it..
Mike.
Last time I flew LH I was told absolutely no upgrades unless coach was full. http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
Randy...earlier in this thread (last year) you said the UA does upgrade. Is this if you have ID tix issued in C or do they charge an upgrade segment fee or do they load up front for all nr pax like Delta does? Just curious about other airlines policy on this. From what I have heard the last few years, it seems like Delta is one of the only airlines to load "from the front to the back".
UA does upgrade - no matter the ticket type and does not charge extra. I've even been in business in jeans! On another note, AA does not upgrade OA staff, only their own. CO is good about upgrading anyone. I've been on 8 or 10 CO flights over the last 5 to 6 years and have been upgraded more than half the time. On a recent flight from EWR a cust svc agent even came aboard the plane after we had boarded to find us so that he could put us up front!
LH's policy regarding upgrades are fairly strict. Though as non rev you may purchase an ID90 in C class and with space available get a seat in business. Not sure though if the ID90 (or 75) in C applies to all other airline employees or just Star Alliance. Even if you hold a normal eco ticket and economy is full you may be upgraded. But a lot depends on the flight manager assigned to that flight. Like so many things it's a last minute judgement call, though I must add not strictly company policy. Officially, with eco full and only seats remaining in C or F, priority is given to the Y full fare status customers to get bumped up and of course non revs holding C class. If there is still enough room in eco, and you hold an eco discounted then forget about that upgrade, unless of course you know the flight manager or gate agent.
I've only been upgraged on LH when my husband was working the flight, or someone we knew was gate agent or purser. UA is generous in that way, in my experience, as others here have noted.
My experience with LH is that they rather upgrade a coach passenger than a non rev.

Just want to add that me and my girlfriend got upgraded on LH last summer when flying FRA-SIN and Y-class got full.
We were on Y-class ZED-fare tickets that time.
You might be able to travel business on any LH flight, if you are able to purches an standby business ticket. I don't know what kind of ticket you are able to buy though.
My first post here. really nice site. I don't work for Lufthana but able to list myself on there standby list and I always list in business eventhough I have the regular coach ticket.
Welcome aboard!
2 Questions...
a) has the listing ever worked with the coach ticket?
b) how do you list?
Welcome!
Yes, a couple weeks ago going to Vienna my airline was oversold and with 1 flight I wasn't trying us so I ventured to Lufthansa because they had three flights which I checked on my system and they looked good so I listed myself in business. I went to the airport gave them the ticket at JFK and was given business to and from with no problems. Only thing though is I wanted to take the 747 but I didn't want to wait around because as a non-rev always go for the 1st flight.
