OOOh nooo Southwest! Wanna get Away??

Southwest Airlines Co. will start charging a no-show fee for passengers who fail to cancel tickets before their flights.
The company also said Friday that fees on early check-in and oversized bags are going up. And it repeated a longtime goal for boosting profits that could only be met next year if it doubles earnings.
Southwest brags that it doesn’t charge ticket-change fees, and it lets customers apply the price of an unused ticket to a later trip.
But customers who take advantage of those policies are leaving too many seats empty, the airline says.
So beginning sometime next year, Southwest will charge a no-show fee on its cheapest fares, known as “Wanna Get Away” tickets.

I don't understand the issue.

There's still no bag fee for the first two bags. Still no change fees.

Don't they charge for oversized bags right now? I think that's what OP wrote.

The company told investors on Friday that it will raise fees on third bags and increase fees for flights on AirTran, the carrier it bought last year, and roll out new fees tied to the sale of open and premium boarding positions at airport gates.

Yes, we currently charge for oversized bags.

Exactly. So The because the higher cost of the integration with Airtran, 737-800's,additional FA's, single cert, etc.. they pass on the cost to us. By 2014 there will be no more LCC's other than Spirit.

There haven't been any unexpected costs with the single cert, any additional personnel required, or any costs unknown regarding the -800s. Those were all known, expected costs at the time of acquisition. Not sure where you're hearing that.

Also, name just ONE airline that hasn't raised costs.
