Sooooo My spouse is leaving a Delta Connection airline for mainline US Air.
What are the major differences in flight benefits?
- I already know of having to pay $20 upgrade for domestic first class
- and $100 for International upgrades and you have to purchase a coupon on advance
- US Air does not fly to SE Asia (American does but there is no buyout yet)
- What other ailines are free flights available
- Anything to add :)
As a former regional employee that got hooked up with US benefits for a bit, free flights are on US Airways and only US Airways, but once he has 6 months of seniority there are pretty good discounts on other airlines through ZEDs. He should have a better priority on US than he would as a regional carrier employee, however. Also, I think there is a $20/flight charge for parents (maybe it was $25?). To be honest, I would expect a lot to change in a couple years anyway.
Thanks for the response. I am familiar with the Zed options also, I also wanted to know if they partnered with any European Airlines like Lufthansa
I'm guessing US has a ZED-Low agreement with them (United does with most Star Alliance carriers) but nothing beyond that. Maybe better priority.
I am a former US Air employee (5yrs) and yes $20 for 1st class upgrade. Although their 1st is not like DL's unless you fly to EUR. Of course he will be union (dues) and have a mediator via a shop steward in the event of any actions. For buddy passes it's by zone so DCA-CLT mileage zone verses PHL-HNL zone 1-5. The fees are about the same in terms of cost. Just got off the phone with friends from CLT. They will know about merger (AA) by end of month. It will be facilitated by downsizing PHX , growing DFW/MIA/CLT and keeping focus cities LAX/PHL/DCA/ORD
Thanks for the info, I have gotten used to not flying first class within the US for some time now so I probably will not pay that $20 :) I Just have to get used to forking over that $100 up front before flying to Europe...but I know it's still a bargin though ...also I know they are growing CLT for sure...
Not to get into an East/West battle, but Phoenix will stay the same or grow. We are voting on a new pilot contract that guarantees Phoenix' current block hour floor. Hope all hubs grow for more non-rev opportunities!Quote:

From where? If you are going through their perspective hubs, For US Air via PHL -DXB you have to go through Star Alliance partner UA from IAD and thats $180 going and $220 return. For AA via JFK - CDG for $95 then use One World Alliance partner Royal Jordanian via AMM for $172 each way so about a $400 trip.
OK thanks, it would be from either CLT or PHL..Wow....that's going to take some getting used to :( but it's still better than full fare:)
and there's more.....if I don't have an upgrade coupon and only business class or first is available will I get a free upgrade or will I have to wait for the next flight?
I don't believe US or AA give comp upgrades..
I work in CLT, a great place to work....flying to europe, you either ride in the back or pay the $100.....I pay the $100 I like the long ride in the front of the plane....8 hrs in the back is tight....stateside is usally full with Chairman Preferred or Silver Preferred, those are hard to get....So I just ride in the back stateside....a great company to work for....alot of fine people here, and some that are not as nice....

From what I remember as a SkyWest employee with US Airways benefits, I believe that parents were $25/segment, upgrades were $20 domestic or $100 overseas. 16 one-way buddy passes per year, which can include connections (PHL-ORD and PHL-CLT-ORD use the same number of passes, just different charges). Spouse could be substituted for an enrolled friend.
That's all I remember, anyone else have anything to add?
