Except in sunny Arizona! We are having our normal, warm sunny days here and everyone is invited to join us. The golf courses are gorgeous and the hotels are not yet in peak season so the prices are right. Peak season around here won't be until after the holidays so some good deals still abound. The Grand Canyon isn't yet snowed in and the hotels on the rim are offering amazing deals to everyone - less than $90 per night for the nicest hotels in the park! The hotels a bit further from the rim itself are offering rates under $70/night. Not bad for a place it is tough to get rooms in for months during the summer season.

Donna we're planning a trip to Tucson over Thanksgiving. A few questions

Saguaro Monument, how difficult are the walking trails? Can you drive through the park?
Colossal Cave, are there a lot of steps?
Tombstone, A day trip or should we plan on spending the night?

Thanksgiving is a perfect time to visit Arizona. First - Saguaro National monument is a great place to drive through. You'll see one of the largest concentrations of saguaros anywhere. I haven't hiked the trails - only driven through. If you hike, wear lots of sunscreen, bring a hat and TONS of water. There isn't much around the monument. The drive is about 8 miles and is gorgeous.
Second - Tombstone is great for a day trip. It is truly a tourist trap but fun nonetheless. They have shows in the street that are a blast to watch.
Third - Colossal Caves has 45 minute tours that are 1/2 mile in length. There are a lot of steps so if that is a problem for you, this is a tour you'd want to skip.
Don't miss San Xavier Del Bac - a mission at the south end of Tucson. It is an amazing place to visit and the simple beauty of it will stay with you always.
Finally, how does one open car doors without burning the hands? Simple - come to Arizona in the winter!

I have hiked the trails of Saguaro National Monument. We hiked one by the visitor center that took us through the catus and some pict-o-graphs a couple centuries old. It was an easy walk with trails plotted out to the amount of time you wish to spend.

Which week? Winter is here right now and will be for the next 6 months. Actually, next week is the high is expected to only get to 69 for several days in a row. A little chilly for November (but normal for January and February). I'm not complaining, though, because my company gave me a lovely suede coat last year so I'm set.

It truly does get chilly around here. At the moment the temperature is 43 degrees. Yikes! I will admit, however, that this is unusually cold for November.

Then again, I am a hot weather wuss. You have never seen anyone so whiny as I am when I am too hot. I keep my house around 18C (that's 64F). My friends say I have ice running through my veins!

Just returned from chilly and rainy Tucson. Donna thanks for the heads up, I definitely needed the winter lining in my windbreaker, temps were only in the 60's. (and yes Randy and Meg, I did use the words chilly and only with 60 degrees [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif[/img]) We did get a chance to drive one of the loop roads in Saguaro National Park. Outstanding desert scenery and the giant Saguaros are beautiful. We also did the tour of Colossal Cave. Yes there were a lot of steps, but nothing strenuous. One 'minor' disappointment for the kids in my group, no bats anywhere. It seems all had flown south for winter. Luckily my enjoyment of the cave was not dependent on bats flying through the air. [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif[/img] Will write report soon.
BTW Donna, don't let Randy and Meg snow you. Those two look at thermometers through frost tinted glasses. [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif[/img]
