Except in sunny Arizona! We are having our normal, warm sunny days here and everyone is invited to join us. The golf courses are gorgeous and the hotels are not yet in peak season so the prices are right. Peak season around here won't be until after the holidays so some good deals still abound. The Grand Canyon isn't yet snowed in and the hotels on the rim are offering amazing deals to everyone - less than $90 per night for the nicest hotels in the park! The hotels a bit further from the rim itself are offering rates under $70/night. Not bad for a place it is tough to get rooms in for months during the summer season.

Donna we're planning a trip to Tucson over Thanksgiving. A few questions
<UL TYPE=SQUARE>
Saguaro Monument, how difficult are the walking trails? Can you drive through the park?

Colossal Cave, are there a lot of steps?

Tombstone, A day trip or should we plan on spending the night?

Biosphere- A few in my party have expressed interest in seeing this, please tell me there is more to this than just a building

and finally can you tell me the secret to opening a car door without burning your hand, OOOOOUCH!
Thanks

Thanksgiving is a perfect time to visit Arizona. First - Saguaro National monument is a great place to drive through. You'll see one of the largest concentrations of saguaros anywhere. I haven't hiked the trails - only driven through. If you hike, wear lots of sunscreen, bring a hat and TONS of water. There isn't much around the monument. The drive is about 8 miles and is gorgeous.
Second - Tombstone is great for a day trip. It is truly a tourist trap but fun nonetheless. They have shows in the street that are a blast to watch.
Third - Colossal Caves has 45 minute tours that are 1/2 mile in length. There are a lot of steps so if that is a problem for you, this is a tour you'd want to skip.
Don't miss San Xavier Del Bac - a mission at the south end of Tucson. It is an amazing place to visit and the simple beauty of it will stay with you always.
Finally, how does one open car doors without burning the hands? Simple - come to Arizona in the winter!

I have hiked the trails of Saguaro National Monument. We hiked one by the visitor center that took us through the catus and some pict-o-graphs a couple centuries old. It was an easy walk with trails plotted out to the amount of time you wish to spend.

By the way love the new picture.

Thanks for the info Donna, Coyne. We'll definitely visit Saguaro and probably skip the trip to the caves. Donna I like your idea of stopping at the mission, thanks for the suggestion.
Donna you are too funny; visit Arizona in the winter and avoid cars with hot steering wheels, like I would know which week that is.

Thanks Coyne, LAX really sparkles at night.

Which week? Winter is here right now and will be for the next 6 months. Actually, next week is the high is expected to only get to 69 for several days in a row. A little chilly for November (but normal for January and February). I'm not complaining, though, because my company gave me a lovely suede coat last year so I'm set.

Last night it was 28. This afternoon its about 40. I raked leaves and did some other yard work this afternoon in a t-shirt. And you're wearing as coat when it's 69?!?! In Chicago 69 is beach weather! I'm sorry but I hearby declare you a wimp! You're not in bad company, though. A few weeks ago I bestowed that honor on L.A. weather-wimp Mig.

Hmmm 69 degrees in Phoenix, I may have to put the winter lining in my windbreaker. After all Randy, it's not just the temperature, it's the wind chill.

I'm with Randy. Good grief, I would die of a heat stroke if I had a jacket on at 69 degrees...

It truly does get chilly around here. At the moment the temperature is 43 degrees. Yikes! I will admit, however, that this is unusually cold for November.
