So!

As I got lucky and had some trade forms in hand when people were looking for hours, I decided to take a Jump to Vegas.

As I still have a few days where I'm still limited to my 'home' airline, I had to go via MSP - I opted for the 3pm from SEA, catching the 9PM to LAS. Flight was busy, but not full enough of Upgradables to knock me out of FC, so I arrived in Vegas in style!

I wandered down to the board, and picked a hotel (there are boatloads starting at round 40$ a night, but you can probably hotwire something nicer if you're planning to go and most of them have free shuttles to and from the APO) - it was a Ho-Jo that had decidedly seen better days, but the staff was awesome, and I got a good fresh cooked breakfast (the works) for around 7$

Took the free shuttle back to the airport (I could have waited until 1PM and got a free shuttle to the strip but I wanted to get there early) and bypassing the huge assed line for Greyline, and got another shuttle for 4$ less with no waiting (the only bear is, the booger did a no show later that night so I had to cab it back).

You can take the "Duce" and grab an all day pass for 5$ and go down the strip, but I ended up going from the Venetian to the Luxor, and hoofing it back (meandering) wandering through the various palaces (and not spending a dime on the slots! But I did get a free pull and 'won' 100 credits - I kept the ticket )

There's a TONNE to see and do (I should have opted for 'Bodies' instead of Titanic - but it was still cool) and the shops are a sight to behold (The Venetian is amazing).

You can't escape the slots, they are everywhere from the moment you get off the plane, but Vegas can be a rocking city!

Just be sure to leave a cushion to get there and back, and I really recommend the redyes mid week, and bring CASH - only one taxi takes credit cards (desert sands) and the shuttles don't...

Getting out - again, the red eyes are going to be your freind - once again I hit FC on the way out, and still managed to get my connecting flight home (even with a delay and an oversold flight - a mechanical got other people off loaded, and yours truly even snagged an exit row on the way home!

Be warned, vegas security IS a bitch - and I swear they have it in for non revs (at least some of them do) - one wiff of your id and all at once, you're almost guaranteed a bag search with the complete look of disdain...

I love Vegas and have never had an issue at Security, except for the long lines for the redeye flights...I have never used my airline ID though, I always use a driver's license for ID at the security checkpoints, unless the airport has a specific employee line like they do at ATL...

We do at MSP as well - I show both ids at the APO as often as not I've just got a gate pass and at every other APO, it's been better. The woman at Vegas was just a cow...

Vegas..... do you want to share any Elvis sightings with us?
Jumper next time if you want to take in one of the Vegas shows, call Tickets2nite (the ticket office is near the MGM, next to the giant Coke bottle) They sell discount tickets to a number of Vegas shows. -- Actually you get a voucher which you redeem at the show's box office, but you get the idea.

I know I paid too much for my ticket to Phantom - but god, it was AMAZING... I didn't like the cuts, the the over all "Show" made it incredibly worth while...

Congratulations on your trip. It will be so much better when you can nonrev on other airlines and catch the nonstop, but even so all of us have to go the round about way every now and again.

You can actually stay at Circus Circus, and the Stratosphere on the strip most nights for about $40.00. If you ever stay at Circus Circus its a real Circus trying to get out of there. I have heard of people waiting for an hour or more for the elevators because the elevators work there way from the top back down. If you are in the middle or say on the 30th floor you can't take the stairs and everyone coming down is full and they stop on every floor going down. The trick is to simply take an empty elevator up to the top and then ride it back down.

Funny thing about security. It seems like whenever I show my badge I get threw faster.

At least the elevators at Circus Circus only go up and down. The elevators at the Luxor (the hotel shaped like a pyramid) go up, down, and sideways, all at the same time; which explains why I got seasick in the middle of the desert.

I just returned from Vegas. I was able to snag at the "very last minute" a Hilton promotion, included in the pkg, two free cocktails, two free spa visits (which I thoroughly enjoyed), buy one buffet, get one free (the buffet was very good by the way ), 20% discount off the puchase of tickets to a musical at the hotel ( sorry I forgot the name) and one free welcome gift (which turned out to be a Hilton deck of cards). All in alll not a bad deal for $69.
Insider tip- always check out the hotel's website specials, even if you're right outside in the parking lot on your laptop.
Almost forgot, I also got Hilton points for the stay, like I said, all-in-all not a bad deal. (If you want to know what happened in Vegas read my blog. How's that for promotion Chris?

Edited because "throughly" was not exactly what I meant.

I tried to nonrev from LAX to LAS on US last month (mar08), of course failed and finally decided to drive.

After a long flight from HKG, I rushed to T1 for US. What interested me was there were 30+ people stand by on the 2pm flight and only 10 seats available. Thanks to a nice US Gate staff told me this piece of info. He added the infavourable situation on all the flight on the rest of the date.

Check on the Southwest website and wanted to get tickets. The only available was 9pm.... o goodness.

So this is another good story to remind people not to do LAX-LAS nonrev on Friday.

Of course I got SSSS on my boarding pass in LAX

In Vegas, I stayed in Luxor. I got there by 7pm and the check in queue was HUGE. I booked a month ahead for 72/night deal in pyramid, where I wanted to be sea sick in the mid of dessert. After 40+ minutes watiting on the check in queue, I was offered a Tower Room.

Room was spacious, just a little bit old.

Luxor, Mandalay Bay and Excalibur are linked with air-con walkway, and a Free mono-rail. If you want to walk down to the Strip, you need to start from Excalibur then NYNY and MGM. Luxor is far down on the Strip.

After watched Bellagio fountain works at 10pm, wanted to catch Duce back to Luxor, I never saw a bus for 20 minutes! so Walk was the only option.

LAS has a security line for employees, I have always used it and it saves me a TON of time!
