I kind of like the Civil War history. Being up in DC last week kind of got me going a little. I notice the CHURCH OF THE EPIPATHY which was built in the pre-civil war years. They had on the sidewalk a photo of the church then and you could compare the church right there. They mentioned that many a wounded soldiers were treated in that church. Also Fords Theatre where Lincoln was shot. I know OHIO played a major roll in the Civil War, and the Ohio River running separating the slave states and the free states. Also, two famous Generals from OHIO, GRANT and SHERMAN are forever remembered in Washington DC through bronze equestrian statues. Does anyone know if Cincinatti has some pretty good Civil War history to look at? Maybe some old foundries or buildings?

we have the underground railroad slave tunnels still viewable in some homes on the KY side (Covington)
there is/was a "freedom museum" on the Cincy side but I don't know if it folded or not--it was not well established and had some political issues/tickets $$ etc ( I found it--it must still be open)

The Museum Center Cincy is in the old Union Terminal whcih has great significance for WWII--as well as natural history and of course there will be CW stuff too.

Covington's Basilica Cathedral Madison/11th street is beautiful--their rose window (notre dame duplicate) is outstanding!!
On the western hills of Covington (right off I75) you'll find the

Beringer Crawford Museum part of teh CW DIscovery Trail
It's in Devou Park which in itself is lovely!!
There are "steamboats" on the KY side, as well as Newport on The Levee for best views of Cincy
Also--can't miss the Purple People Bridge
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newport_Southbank_Bridge
Airport is close to city--15-20 mins--parking for city is best on Ky side walk bridge (Roebling is pretty cool--prototype for the Brooklyn Bridge)

it's a pretty compact city and relatively small.
covington south side/cincinnati north side (river is KY, BTW, even tho Buckeyes think otherwise!!)
DT cincy has little to offer for reasonable hotels in good locations. all the chains are on the Ky side--bridges are relatively short walkover. plenty of cheap digs near the airport. there's also the Drawbridge in Ft. Mitchell KY that offers airline discount.
Museum Center is just past DT Cinti
airport is southwest on beltway (I275)
you'll need car for Devou Park and Museum Center. I bet Beringer Crawford curator can steer you to any old foundries/similar bldgs.
Newport is on the southeast side by Covington--on the other side of the Licking River (Newport was quite the naughty place for mobsters and our "Havana" of the fifties--then Bobby Kennedy got a broom...) That's where the Purple People Bridge is and it connects direct to the waterfront DT
I bet you could find more than a handful of CW groups in the immediate Tri-State area.
Hope thats not info overload.
happy to root around for more if you need
Just remembered--New Richmond OH east of city past the riverbend might have some CW groups--it's well-known for Lewis and Clark exped, too

they didn't call it "Porkopolis" for nothing!
we have flyin pigs all over and I even had a faux mink "stuffed animal' made with gold wings for a promotion in town
