Aviation quiz 14 (general knowledge) Because I don't want a repeat of Aviation Quiz 13, (not one guess in seven months http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emotic...n_rolleyes.gif) this quiz will be multiple choice; meaning, you have a chance of getting the correct answer just by closing your eyes and pointing. (Please note only posted answers will be given credit)
So lets have some fun, and remember don't Google
Disclaimer--No one was hurt during the writing of this quiz, although one person got very upset.
As previously stated, a detailed explanation of scoring is available by sending Mrs Field's chocolate chip cookies (with walnuts) to me at LAX. Inquiries will be answered within 6 to 8 weeks and are not valid in California, Iceland and certain Canadain provinces.

Well, that's easy. But I'll give someone else a chance.
-
I'd have to say Southwest.
Between Randy's reply and the fact that I'm reading the book, "Nuts," and I think I've seen it in there.

Er, William Boeing was a lumber merchant before he started building airplanes.

3---How many DC-1s were build?
<UL TYPE=SQUARE>
A--1
B--35
C--50
D--96
Keep'em flying

Well, as it's name would suggest the answer is 'A'.
On a related note my mother-in-law was a sky goddess for Philippine in the 50's. She flew on a DC-3 her entire career. When she got married she transferred to the ticket counter. She was first based in Manilla, then Rome and finally Honolulu where she went to the ticket counter. Before she was 30 she had been around the world several times visiting all the exotic and glamorous cities of the world.

Yea, F/As in the 50's had to be young and single. The rules certainly have changed since then, on a recent flight a F/A showed me photos of her grandkids. http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
BTW, are you sure you want to go with "A"?
Anybody else have a guess?

4---What was the first airline to operate a scheduled round the world service?
<UL TYPE=SQUARE>
A--TWA
B--AA
C--BA
D--Pan Am
Keep'em flying
-
I think it would be between C and D as A and B are too domestic and my guess would be Pandemonium Scareways as BA didn't exist in the early days and BOAC ( Better on a Camel ) / BEA ( Back every afternoon ) were more rivals than partners and although they had the network they didn't have the business forethought.

Logical, but is your answer correct? http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Bonus points--(ALL)

<UL TYPE=SQUARE>
A--The Wright Brothers first flight at Kitty Hawk.
B--Charles Lindbergh landing in France.
C--Chuck Yeager landing after breaking the sound barrier.
D--The Beatles in 1964 arriving at JFK.
Be careful now.

My guess would be B) however I believe the 25000 were Parisiennes under the mis-understanding that he was carrying a supply of CocaCola and the ranks of Policemen were in fact French Customs officials there to ensure that if he was he would declare it at customs!! http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emotic...on_biggrin.gif

Okay, since no one else is biting I'll answer. It's 'D'.
-
All right contestants, it's time for the final quiz question.
This question is worth double points, so it's still anybody's game.
7--Who said it? Identify the speaker.
"Pilots take no special joy in walking. Pilots like flying."
<UL TYPE=SQUARE>
A--Neil Armstrong
B--John Travolta

D--Answer given by pilot friend when asked why he doesn't jog.
Keep'em flying

A for Armstrong.
I'd also like to lodge a protest at Q4. The Graf Zeppelin was flying around the world in 1929. Just because it wasn't a "flight" and just because it wasn't an airline as such, shouldn't exclude it from being the first.

4---D
5---B
6---D
7---A
Final scores
<UL TYPE=SQUARE>
Paul-- 50

Randy-- Disqualified for rule violation--Google Images. "A photo easily found on Google Images."
Randy please note any future violation will be met with a punishment commensurate with the degree of the offense. http://bestsmileys.com/hitting/10.gif
Paul-50 points Barnstormer--You're a little crazy and somewhat unpredictable, no doubt a result of your many years of power breathing jet fumes. You love traveling to exotic places and are a sharp and tenacious bargainer. You have a discerning eye and are quick to notice small flaws; which are fine traits when bargaining for tapestries in Peru, but major liabilities when your spouse is asking how they look. http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Hope you had fun
