Cutbacks.... Have you weathered them

NWA announces personel cutbacks


As a result of these flight reductions, Northwest will reduce its frontline and management personnel by 2,500. All NWA employee groups will be affected by this.

The reductions will be first achieved through a variety of voluntary programs including early-out programs, voluntary leaves, work rule modifications and attrition. Furloughs will be employed only if voluntary means fail to achieve the targeted reductions.


OK, yeah there's bits about changer fees increasing, and mileage booking cost , and the dreaded first bag fee (I'll stock up on advil before I go to work tomorrow) but as one who is only 2 months away from only completing her first year, should I be as scared as I feel?

I'm actually pretty worried as well. I think, honestly, you're the kind of employee NWA wants to keep. You started about a year ago, so you know what you're doing, and probably do your job well, but you don't command the high pay of senior employees. You pretty much just have to hope alot of people take the early outs.

I'm just trying to do a good job, and really enjoying my flight benefits for now. It's funny, I never really intended to be in this industry for a career, but I think I'm headed in that direction. Although, in a different capacity, I don't plan to throw bags for a career.

Yeah - Ditto - I mean, for all the grouching I do like my job and I have a good handful of letters from happy callers (I save each one even after I&#39;ve lost the little gonk we get at the recognition meeting) but these are some scary times...

I wouldn&#39;t be too scared, yet. Delta asked for 2 or 3 thousand and actually got 4,000, which they accepted.

I would feel different were I a mainline emp.

I&#39;m worried about working for an airline packed to the gills with inefficient 50 seat CRJS. Plus, I see less and less OH metal every day. All my stations flights are being shifted to another DL CONX carrier, which makes me (as a ramp agent) just a contractor. I know cheaper contractors loom...

Yes I&#39;m a little worried with the DL/NW merger. I work for ASA and 19 of our cities have been overlapped. Bids have been put in and already word of AVL being switched to Comair. With more of ASA routes being lost and given to other carriers spefically Mesaba and Pinnacle its not a good time...not to mention DL not giving us any CR9s...

Delta has given skywest plenty of CR9s. It&#39;s up to Skywest to send them down the line. We(OH) actually have a few CR9s, but all our orders plus 1 plane just entering service have been taken away from us. ASA has plenty of CR7s, just worked one today NxxxCA(another Comair bird taken away by Delta). ASA&#39;s not getting any new planes(I don&#39;t think) but they&#39;re not getting their planes taken away. I think ASA is in good shape and will survive this merger just fine. I really hope the same holds true for Comair.

I&#39;m still waiting on my fantasy of DL ordering OH 175 Embraer 175s. Yea, I&#39;m dreaming.

Yeah I would love to see some more E-175/190s in the system esp flown by someone other then S5. I guess we&#39;ll be getting more of an influx of them through CP now since the merger. I have to say there are way to many connection carriers! I wish it was like the old days when there was just 2 or 3 of us. Yes, OO did manage to take the CR9 possibilites away from us a couple of years ago when they bought us b/c we were going to take delievery of it until OO said they wanted it! I&#39;ve heard we will be getting some CR9&#39;s in the spring but of course that is rumor. Our pilots have been doing training on the aircraft so time will tell. Probably EV as far as flying is concerned is OK but the ground staff issue is more shakey.
BTW the CR7&#39;s are now becoming just as unreliable as the CR2s.

PS I did TDY in BTV which was really quite an experience to say the least since it is an OH station. Is it true that OH did away with the TDY program?

OH did not do away with TDY, but apparently it&#39;s pretty restrictive.

Rumor has it that OH is looking to expand on the ground side, which is good for OH. It doesn&#39;t really do me much good for OH to expand in other stations, I just want to keep my job in my station.
