Possible Thumb Amputation

Well gang, the bone infection in my thumb has reared it's ugly head once more. I just canceled our flight listings to Bali and it's not a good day. Boss called me on his way to LGA to have me check him in online and I blurted it out--it just "blew up" today. I ended 6 wks of IV therapy 4 wks ago and this damned thing just doesn't want to be cured. The original prognosis was possible partial amputation (at the first joint, including the nail and nailbed) and I am so scared that it will happen. It's my right thumb and guess what?--yep, it's my dominant hand. I'm pretty good with my left (former dental assistant--very ambidextrous except for writing). I'm pretty shaken and looks like I won't have a trip report in the near future. In the coming weeks, I'll do my best to share links and such and I will check loads as needed for you folks who travel on DL.

Well, I got some encouraging news from second opinion hand doc and sent me back to first one. I have a temporary reprieve until next Friday to see my ID doc. So, we got the trip to Asia postponed and have 4 days to spend in Mexico. I'm on oral anitibiotics and they should keep me stable for a short time. I'll have more on both the Cancun trip and medical news next week. It's not much but it's something...Thanks for the kind words, PM, prayers and good wishes.

I plan to stuff myself with good food, imbibe as much as possible, soak up some sun, swim and relax.

I usually avoid Cancun but this is north of the hotel zone and we don't plan to leave the resort until it's time to go to the airport. I liked the fact that it's new and large, so occupancy is pretty flexible last-minute.
One of my Bali hotels is holding my "res" thru end Dec and the other was handled by LuxuryLink Concierge (refundable with small fee) so I can't fault them for service. Last thing I need to worry about is those packages.

Tomorrow is the big day. They are taking the distal bone and first knuckle and leaving me a small "stump". I'll have the joint closest to my hand. I am trying my best to stay positive. It's been hard. Got my ducks in a row--valium for the anxiety, pain meds post op and lots of out fave foods in the freezer. Boss will be here for a few days and I'll be fine; I know it. Thanks for all the kind wishes. Anyone who prays--please feel free!!
Good news is I don't have to go back to Global Entry--they only use 4 fingers for ID. AND--we're off to South Africa for 2 safaris in 30 days. I plan to keep going everywhere on my list.
