Amedeus Restaurant my friend. It's in Tanki, not far from Eagle Beach. With the Caribbean Dutch style of cooking, it is a interesting mix. Schnitzel and crab..lol
Ruinas del Mar at the Hyatt for dining under the stars and very good food. Also, El Gaucho Argentine restaurant in downtown Oranjestad is good. Try to make reservations ahead of time.
I personally dislike Aruba--it's scrubby and arid, but there are good beaches if you like windsurfing. I do not care for their government (Natalie Holloway) I stopped going there several yrs prior to her disappearance just because of disinterest. I can think of so manyother island options in the Carib. Altho I have retired pals who go there 3-6 times a year, I don't get it.
I have heard its a little scrubby, but at the same time I heard its not as "crowded" as places like STX, STT, and UVF. That and the prices of the resorts on those Islands for May was insane even with the interline discount and such (over 4k+ for 5 days). Thanks for the suggestions I will keep these in mind for our trip.
Good point. Well in terms of the beaches and all-inclusives, you might want to consider CUN, SJD, MZT. Closer to home and just as good.
Ive been to MEX and CUN before and they are nice, but I think the time frame of when we are going is the reason we stayed away from Mexico in General. The last time I went they still had the red button green button deal in customs down there. Woe be unto you if you pressed the button and it turned red lol.
How many people? Take a look at AI's on LuxuryLink under property type tab--we love Hacienda Tres Rios Nature Reserve in Riviera Maya.Their price is about $400 day for 2--premium everything. I aslo check sister site Family Getaway for pkgs (up to 4 people) and just use a pkg for 2. Massages, transfers, etc in many deals. We also liked Villa del Palmar north of hotel zone. The only ones I stay from are the mega resorts and Secrets (very small discounts)
I think Aruba is very expensive for non AI. There are always plenty of flights in May (watch Mom's Day, of course) Our local friends have trouble getting back from AUA now and then. (Comair retirees)
Keep us posted!
The Red light Green Light customs screening is gone. Didn't even check my carry on and shoes. Yes Mexico has is problems (borders)but they protect there resorts $$$ especially Puerto Aventura, R. Maya, Playa D.C. , Tulum. FYI, even with your senority, if oversold, Skyteam Partner AeroMexico takes great care of us. Flight every other hour to MEX.
We still have a nonstop once a week from CVG!
So many DL gateways for CUN.
I didn't see the red/green the last few trips. We typically go in May to Hacienda Tres Rios (for our anniversary--5/5/5 Cinco de Mayo por Us! haha) I highly recommend it for the food alone. Chef Oskar sometimes takes his vacation--we missed his personality last trip. They pamper you all day long at the pool, all teh activities are included--snorkeling in their cenotes, kayaks, bikes, etc. Night life is not a priority, but you can get wiped out with pool activities, food and drinks pretty fast! Great suites, too.
Wow interesting mrs767. I usually stay at Dreams and I thought about Hacienda but reviews were just ok. I will rethink that hotel in Sept. when all kiddies are back in school and folks are back to work. lol
Actually, we've hardly ever seen kids at HTR. I checked and it was 3 times in May and once in fall. School is still in session in May. We've been there 4 times and most of the ok reviews are from timeshare folks who don't take the all-inclusive pkg and object to the pitch. They have never bothered us. They ask on arrival and we decline--nuff said. The TS guests also get the cheapest low floor mangrove rooms and gripe about the view/bugs. If you're beachy, I can see objections due to the river effluence.
What day of the week is the CVG -CUN?
There are only 2 of us, I did spend about 2 hours on LuxuryLink, and they have some great deals for sure. The AI resort we got for the last week of May was 2300, that included a $500 airline discount, RT transfers, a couples massage, dinner for two on the beach, airfare (I didnt want to chance it with my seniority), and 5 days at the resort. We will definately have to check out the Hacienda in CUN.
Well---DUH!! Honeymoon--2 people--I just caught that!! Super blonde moment! HAHAHAHAWe never buy anythig so I've ignored the "red/green show"...(some of you know what that means!)
Congrats to you ATG-DL!
We honeymooned in Bonaire, which is similar to Aruba in climate. We chose it for reasons like you, that it is not crowded like typical honeymoon destinations. Great beaches, snorkeling, and diving, and very low key and quiet. Only issue is that there is currently only one flight per week.
We nonreved to our honeymoon and had zero issues. Flew LAS-FLL-MIA-CUR-BON-CUR-MIA-FLL-LAS.
Have fun wherever you go!
