I'm a newbie to the airline world myself, although not to non revving~ My dad was 30+ NWA and is now retired.

Anyways, looking for some ideas for day tripping out of MSP. Got a family of 4 with 2 teen boys (15 and 12).

Please pass/post any info you can.

Thanks a lot!!

I'm a kid myself, so I've never travelled w/ kids. I'm not sure how helpful my suggestions are, but here goes.

I've taken day trips to Chicago, SFO, SEA, MCO, EYW, DEN, EZE.

Chicago was nice, saw some museums and walked around downtown. It has a nice lakefront and a pretty good amount to do.
SEA has the Boeing museum, I also hope to get to everett within a month or so.
In MCO, I didn't touch Disney. That'd take more than a day.
EYW was awesome to leave the Pennsylvania snow and ride a moped on a 2x4 mile island, probably even nicer by comparison leaving from MSP. Theres not too much beach, I didn't swim at all, but it's really neat to explore old town.
DEN is a nice city with a beautiful downtown. LoDo has the 16th street mall, some nice landmarks, a six flags, and ....The COLORADO AVALANCHE(ColoAvs).
EZE is a little long for a day trip.

SEA, SFO, DEN and the west coast are nice because you have the entire day, you just take a red-eye home and are tired the next day.
The rest of the country you have less time at your destination, but you get to sleep in your own bed instead of a plane.

I've enjoyed every place I've been, and love to do day trips. They just run you a little ragged by the time you get home.

With MSP as your base, you're really only limited by your stamina and your back. 19's suggestions are all great, expect maybe for EZE, but then again he is only 19 and listens to that....."music" (oh is he going to get me for that one )
My suggestions
limit yourself to nonstops. I know it's tempting to chance a connection, but if you really only have 24 hours, don't gamble.
Now I usually limit my day trips to 5+ hours of flight time, any more and you run the risk of spending more time in the airport and in the air than at your destination; of course if you don't mind dragging around the next day ...go for it.
Any place on the west coast would make a good day trip. You could spend your day at Universal Studios or maybe Sea World San Diego.
So grab the credit cards and your travel pillow and get going.

EZE was a nice day trip. (Actually About 40 hours going down, 12 on the ground in EZE, and about 20 hours coming home......5-1 airport to ground, still had fun.

I'm actually a whole 20 years old now. (The 19 is a coincidence. It's the number of my favorite hockey player, Joe Sakic.)

And I proudly listen to Nirvana. Listening to Nirvana puts me in a state of... Nirvana

Thanks for the suggestions :>)

My hubby and son decided to do a day trip and catch the twins at the yankee stadium before it is demolished. I told them no, don't go, you are not getting home. Did they listen, nope. They got there without a hitch and got to the game. Then all flights were cancelling out of LGA due to weather (that was Wed), and they are now stuck in DSM for the night. They caught a flight LGA to DSM today that no one seemed to know about. The Last flight outta DSM today was full and they were the last 2 non revvers, and didn't make it. That was with a jump seater in the jumpseat. I should have just jumped in the car and got them when they made it to DSM, but the gate agent there told them, no problem, you will get on this flight so they waited it out. Now they are chillin at the Holiday Inn but at least they are getting to spend time together :>)
