Default How to upload a picture

To upload a picture into a post, do the following.

    1) Click the picture icon in the editor. It looks like this: Name: insertimage..png
Views: 676
Size: 872 Bytes

    Here's where it is:

Name:	editor..png
Views:	1453
Size:	11.8 KB
ID:	281

    2) A new window will pop up. Click the "Select Files" button. ( Highlighted in yellow below )

    Name: window-1..jpg
Views: 684
Size: 7.8 KB

    3) Now select your files...it will bring up the file selector in Windows, or Mac/OSX, or whatever kind of PC you are using.

    4) Once you've selected files, the window will show them. Click "Upload Files". Again, I highlighted the button in yellow here:

    Name: window-2..jpg
Views: 626
Size: 13.4 KB

    5) Once the picture is uploaded in the editor, you can put your pointer/cursor over the upper left-hand corner of it. A pencil icon will appear that lets you choose how large the picture is. You don't have to mess with this, but it's there if you want it.

    That's it. Easy peasy.

There should be a table that shows the maximum file size for different types of photos (both resolution and file size). If your file is too big, you'll need to resize it (I think that the standard windows image viewer can do this, and I know that Preview in the Mac can as well). Generally it cannot check this until after the image has loaded, so it may seem like it uploaded, then fail after (the server would just discard it)

For sites like flickr, you need to copy the image location, an option that should come up when you right click the image (should end in .jpg or .png or something like that) and wrap it between [ img ] and [ /img ] (without the spaces inside the []). For example, [ img ]http://nonrev.net/avatars/admin.gif[ /img ] (again, without the spaces) would produce

Yes, we can't take arbitrarily large photos, as we would fill up the disk space for the site. As spongebue says, you can make the photo smaller with the windows file viewer. Or, google for "resize pictures online". Or, you can just choose to download the "medium" size photo from flikr.

The "incorrect" file type means you don't have a file extension on the file, like filename.jpg, or filename.png, or filename.gif. You can rename the file yourself on your PC before you upload it.

OK Pam lets see if we can figure this out.
From your description it sounds like you're missing a step. At the bottom of the (add an image) window is a text window select files
Clicking on that should open a window from which you can select files from your computer.
Take another look at Admin's instruction post, the pictures will help.

One thing that trips some people up is that they've downloaded really lousy "pop up blockers". Good "pop up blockers" won't interfere with these things, bad ones will.

However, one thing that's pretty universal with "pop up blockers" is to hold down the SHIFT key when you click on things like the "Select Files" button above.

Holding down the SHIFT key tells the pop-up blocker that you really want to open the window.

Hi Edgewater, you got me on this one. Try it once more, you should see the "add an image" window. Then click the "from computer" tab and then "select flies".
Let us know how it goes.

I'm having the same problem as Edgewater...My only option is to "Enter the URL of your image"...no option to upload files from computer or to select files. Unfortunately I can't even seem to copy & paste my screen shot! Arggggg!!!! Help!!! I'd love to add a couple pics to the contest thread!
