I am planning a trip for next Summer that includes non-revving from Bangkok, Thailand (BKK) to Nairobi, Kenya (NBO). I'm looking for some information about non-revving on Emirates connecting in Dubai (DX. Are there special passport or visa requirements in order to change planes in Dubai? How difficult is it to get on the flights as a non-rev in these cities during July? I've never traveled in this part of the world before and I would really appreciate any information I can get.

Thank you,
Mark

Mark,
Firstly, so you don't hack them off, its just Emirates ( no Air ). Its too early to give much information on this but Emirates is a very slick operation and Dubai is an incredibly modern airport so you shouldn't encounter many problems. July is the very hot season in Dubai and so tourist traffic is lower than in the cooler months. You'd need to check up on the Visa requirements for US citizens but us Brits just get a visa on arrival ( i.e. just the normal stamp in the passport valid for 60 days ) ... see http://www.government.ae/gov/en/index.jsp.
Note also that you can get Duty Free on arrival in Dubai.

hi mark
nonrev connecting in dubai is quite easy. normally your luggage should be checked through so you just need to go to a transfer desk for your onward flight and hopefully you'll get your seat at the gate. if you need to pick up your luggage,at the check in area, there is a (chaotic) staff check in counter for staff and you'll have to wait there until your flight is called. as far as i know dxb-bkk-dxb is one of their best going routes and nonreving on this route might get tough-i even saw a letter to ek-staff to avoid bkk during summer months and tg acutally has an embargo on that routing from june until end of august. so try to have a plan B when going bkk-dxb or vv.

Hi Guys,
Just spotted this post. (I retired from EK DXB last year).
Sorry to say that the summer loads BKK-DXB & DXB NBO on EK are always extremely high and nonrev chances during the school holidays are usually slim indeed.
I'd take backup tickets.
cheers
Peter
