Mark Twain described Mauritius in "An Innocent Abroad" as God's practice attempt before He created Heaven. This Muritius lover thinks that's a fair comment. Routings: Either London direct to Mauritius. Or through Dubai. But probably best is to head for Joburg in South Africa. Many, many flights -- South African Airways and Air Mauritius -- go from there daily. Meanwhile, plenty of cheap hotels in Maurius. Go on line. One doesn't HAVE to stay at expensive resorts. Have a swell time.

Unlike the Seychelles, Mauritius is an ' affordable ' destination. I think it outshines the Seychelles ten fold.
Go to : www.touchdown.co.uk they have some very good deals on resorts. You may also like to try www.hatravelservices.com
I always fly on MK with back ups on AF, BA & EK. Never had to use them, I've always been fortunate with MK, but I'm in the UK.

The Shandrani is an upscale all inclusive resort close to the airport that's used as a layover for some European crews. They offer airline discounts. A smaller, more budget option that also gives discounts is Villas Le Guerlande, also on the south of the island close to the airport, with its own private beach. I can highly recommend it.

Thank you Scoop and ItalGreco for the ideas. I have decided since I am from Germany to combine both, going home for christmas and Mauritius from there in one trip. LTU can take me from Munich on a service agreement standby and I can take MK positive ID 50 back (the only agreement we have with MK)
Thank you Frapos for your info, that helps a lot since I am planning to go on to Rodriguez from MRU.

Check the LTU loads carefully before you head out. As a holiday carrier, the no show rate is almost non existant. Plus the distance and type of aircraft may mean the flight is weight restricted. Both AF and MK have daily flights from Paris, so they are a good bet.
