Man, Hawaii to YEG on a 737. I can only imagine that flight getting weight restricted pretty heavily. That said, it's always a good idea to bring your passport when going to HNL. If you get stuck, there are connections through NRT (and Canada isn't a bad idea, either) and most people do not bring one. If you have a passport, you automatically get a good boost past others that may have higher seniority.

I have some friends who were going to Hawaii from Atlanta. They apparently got to LAX to find the flights very full. They were able to get ZEDS on WestJet and were able to go LAX - YVR - HNL. They said it was somewhat more expensive. but they arrived the same day and were happy to start their vacation. I have heard of some people flying into YUL and YYZ from JFK and LGA to connect to some destinations in Florida, and even to the Caribbean. In terms of connecting airports, YVR is great, so is YUL. YYZ is ok, however the domestic/international terminal does not offer much in terms of amenities. I recommend that if they are going to catch a WestJet flight in YVR, they should try to arrive early in the morning. YVR now has a monorail/metro system that connects the airport with Downtown Vancouver. I have had many friends arrive in the morning, check-in for their connecting flights, drop their bags, and then hop on the train to explore. It is a great option and helps pass the time. As well, Vancouver is a beautiful city and is great for exploring. As well, new for this summer, daily direct flights to Whitehorse!
