AA mechanics earlier this week found a surprise while working on a plane at TUL. 26.2 pounds of cocaine. The workers discovered the drugs on a Boeing 757 jet that was brought in for maintenance service.
“Narcotics were discovered on a Boeing 757 during routine maintenance at the Tulsa Maintenance and Engineering Base on Dec. 1,” American spokeswoman Andrea Huguely said. “Upon discovery, American immediately contacted law enforcement. Our corporate security team is working directly with law enforcement during their investigation.”
Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Tuesday responded to a call from American workers who found two wrapped packages “and assumed it was drugs,” said Justin Green, spokesman for the office.
The sheriff’s office notified the Drug Enforcement Agency, which removed 10 packages from the airplane totaling 26.2 pounds of what was later identified as cocaine, he said.
The jet originated in BOG, Green said. The investigation is ongoing, but it’s a difficult case because the jet made several stops between BOG and TUL, so the drugs could have been hidden in the plane at any point, he said.
