    Hi!
I am considering a vacation to Australia in later March/early April and never been before. I just have a few questions as I am trying to plan this out:

Is early April a good time to go and what can i expect temperatures/weather to be like?

For someone who has never been before, what are the main attractions I should be sure to see and what do you think is a good length of stay to see them?

Should I book an escorted tour (in case I go on this trip alone) or is it just as easy to just get there and sigthsee/tour with an organized tour or just do it on my own??

I want to do this as cheaply as possible and I am not sure what would be the best area to stay in around Sydney that would also be central?

Lastly...if I wanted to fly to New Zealand, any recommendations on where to stay, what to see, and how long i would need??

Sorry for so many ???'s! Perhaps there is already a posting that might answer some of these. I didn't see any other than some on hotels. Also, I may be a female traveling alone, so do you think that is a safe thing?

    Thanks so much!

    Randy,
Thanks for the suggestion. I actually had already read that article, but I didn't see anything specifically about the weather in April or about how safe it would be for me to travel there alone.

My husband and I went to Australia last year in Feb. We went to the visitor's center in Sydney and bought a Sydney pass for 7 days that would let us take a tour of the city, the outer edge of the city, transportation on the city buses , the ferries, and a train that took us up to the blue mountains.
Being senior citizens we felt safe on all our outings...We did always want to be back by early evening...we were tired and did not know the different areas of the town. Bus service is very good and we used it to get from our hotel to the center of the city.
Sydney is a very interesting city and we truly enjoyed our time there.
We took a cruise ship over to New Zealand and then on to the Hawaiian Islands. Our 11 days in Sydney and the 30 days on the ship made for a wonderful vacation that we will always remember...
Bon Voyage and have a wonderful time.

    Hi Iwalani,

I live in Sydney. If you could let me know what parts of Australia you would like to visit and what you like doing on holidays eg bushwalking, museums, shopping etc I’ll try and help you further.

March/April is the start of our autumn and generally the weather is reasonable mild in Sydney. I’m not sure which states you want to visit and how long you have but March would probably be a better time in Sydney and NSW as the NSW Easter school holidays start from 9th April until 26th April so it can be a lot more crowded in town and during that time accommodation could be more expensive and it would be advisable to pre-book. Plus there are a few public holidays during the school holidays for Easter and Anzac Day.

In the city (Sydney) it is probably easier to get around by foot or public transport. Darling Harbour has a quite a few tourist attractions and museums and also around the Rocks area. There is a museum in one of the Harbour Bridge pylons and the Opera House has tours too, both of which are interesting. There are also numerous harbour cruises. Centrepoint Tower offers a great view of the city and suburbs.

I’d stay away from staying near Kings Cross/Darlinghurst/Newtown areas. If you wanted to save money you could possibly stay in the suburbs and travel into the city for the day which would probably be cheaper.

Some sites you might want to have a look at

Hope this helps a bit - Vicki
