Hi, I am trying to take my sister to Bali and I need the least expensive route. I work for NWA and unfortunately, we no longer fly into Indonesia. So I am trying to get my sister to someplace close so she can purchase a ticket from somewhere to DPS. NW flies into NRT SIN, HKG, BKK, but the problem is that it cost a gazillion dollars to fly from these cities to Bali. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or should we just give up the dream?

Thanks

Have you had a look to see if it can be done on Air Asia ( http://www.airasia.com ) which is a low cost carrier with routes around Malaysia/Indonesia and the Far East.

You can nonrev to GUM and purchase a tkt on one of CO's 3x weekly flights from GUM to DPS.

Hope this helps.

I agree with one of the other posters - S.E. Asia is now littered with LCC's and good fares can be found easily on the www.
Air Asia, Tiger, Valuair, JetStar Asia etc etc etc.
Having said that, flights aren't what they used to be into DPS. SQ are even down to only 3 per day, so nonrev is hard. A better and easier option may well be Jakarta and getting a dirt cheap fare to DPS on one of the local domestic carriers. And believe me, domestically they are dirt cheap.
Routing into/from CGK also offers up a load of options for nonrevving fairly easily - KL and LH for example fly from CGK to points in SE Asia before continuing to Europe. There are many worldwide carriers operating tags to/from CGK to SE Asia ports.

I know this may be a bit after the fact for this thread, but my two-bits worth are: in 1999 we did LAX-TPE-DPS and back for pretty cheap (for non-non-revvers which we were back then: about $1000) on BR (Eva Air), who back then had a very comfy super-coach class almost like Business, for $100 more each way.
Now we're non-revving parents with NW, and are looking into Bali again for next Winter. Found that Korean Airlines have JFK-Seoul-DPS and NW has ZED agreement with them. We're gonna try to do either that (Jan 2007) or LAX-TPE-DPS on BR who also have ZED accord w. NW.

Hope you will have or had a great Bali time. Ubud in the center is highly recommended!

I think you better change your plan because
1. Dec/Jan are high season for all Korean airline flights.
2. I heard that Korea-Bali flights are almost always full.

I think you have very little chance to get on the flights.

Aloha Paular,
Have you considered Hawaiian Air to Honolulu
and then a full-fare hop to Bali? Also popular seems to be Quantas to down under and then a
full fare to Indonesia. Don't give up the dream, just consider other routes!
