Thats impossible to say this far out. NRT is generally not too bad. I don't know about the week of the 4th. We are too far away from it this year to check history.
The problem with NRT is cargo loads coming back. I have never seen any travel advisories about NRT though. Always have some flexibility built into your plans with such an international location.

Thats a good plan. You can always change the dates free of charge. If you decide to go somewhere else, you can change the ticket to an entire different itinerary for $25 per ticket plus difference in fare (or refund if cheaper).
