My wife and our two teenagers are planning to fly as Delta family and friends to Tokyo on July 3 and back on July 18. The flight there looks "good", the flight back looks "fair". Suppose we have trouble getting back. Is this direct flight to ATL the only flight we could fly standby on or would Delta try and get us on another flight, perhaps on another airline, to some intermediate destination like LAX? Any suggestions/observations welcome! - Greg

    Hi Greg,

Since you all will be using a family and friends pass (buddy pass) unfortunatley your only options as a standby would be to leave a day or a couple days early or leave a couple days later, or if you really need to be back on a certain day and can't nonrev, buy a confirmed ticket. Since 2005, buddy passes are not able to be used on codeshare flights. They are only valid on Delta and delta connection flights. Also, what makes it a little more difficult is that there is only the one flight a day, and hopefully there aren't any weight and balance issues. Just keep asking the employee who gave you the pass how the flights look and plan accordingly. Others on here could assist you with seat availablility also. Good luck!! - Chris
