I can't help you with UA because I'm retired from AA. I'll give you a few tips however. The flights at that time of the year are very full..usually they are oversold. I would recommend you fly in the middle of the week as you might have a better chance. Also I don't know how UA handles oversales, but at AA the airport will often upgrade premium members to the next class of service to accomodate everyone. So consider this if you want to fly in first or business class
