Hello... I was checking to see if anyone knows the cheapest way to get to Melbourne for Delta employees? I don't think we do the ZED fares. Is there a closer place I should fly to before going on Qantas... ie NRT or HNL?
And also could someone tell me if the flights look good from Feb 2-6 on the non-stop Qantas LAX-MEL. Returning around March 14-16?
If I were you, I'd definitely fly non-rev easily to HNL, then ID90 on Qantas to Melbourne. Not sure whether or not they fly to MEL diresct from there. Obtaining an ID90 is easy. If originating in ATL, the easiest way to do it is: going to the international check-in desk in the E concourse. Simply ask an agent for an ID90 on Qantas out of HNL, tell her what flight you want, and she/he will then ask you for your credit card and that's it. She will then hand you your itinerary and tell you how much it was. I have done this when non-revving to JNB on DL and then SA to CPT.
So do you think it is cheaper from hnl then lax with the ID90... and easier to get on? I checked and there is is one flight on Fridays and Mondays on codeshare Jetstar Airways, so I am not sure if I can non-rev on them.
I just bought a confirmed ticket on Jetstar airways leaving HNL nonstop to MEL for $290!!! I can't believe it myself!
Jetstar have had a few good opening specials.
Please ensure you read the fine print in detail - pay for all meals, pay for *all* drinks (apart from the one small bottle of water you get at your seat on boarding), pay for amenities, observe strict check-in times (they're ruthless on that) etc. They're fine to fly with, but their LCC model they use for Domestic Oz has basically been transplanted over onto their International routes with some slight tweaking. It's okay to take your own food/drinks on board, but they won't supply cups, cutlery, napkins, crockery etc. The prices are not all that friendly - $3 for a coffee, $2 for a coke, $15 for a meal etc.
A major full service carrier they are not, but as you alluded to, for the price, who cares !
