Well, wow, what a long assed trip that was. Had no problems really exept I must have screwed up on what my idea of a ZED FARE meant. I was connecting via IAH-NRT but that didn't materialize since the loads were quite full, so I went via IAH-HNL-GUM-MNL to get to the Philippines. I stupidly bought a one way 2 tickets from NRT to MNL on JAL ZED FARE and figured if I didnt connect via NRT, I would just use it on my return trip. I figured that the same leg, which was MNL-NRT or NRT-MNL didn't mean a hill of beans. So when I tried to board a NORTHWEST/DELTA flight out of MNL, I was told I needed to fix the ticket to read MNL-NRT. I tried to explain that it was a ZED fare and shouldn't make a difference but apparantly at NINOY AQUINO AIRPORT, it does make a difference. So that screwed us out of our flight that day. I go to the ticket office of my company to straighten out my ticket but nobody there knows how to do it and I am told to return at 7:30 PM that evening. This flight I tried to make was at 8:20AM. How about that? So that misunderstanding of a ZED fare and routing kind of screwed me up for a day. Not a huge problem, though, I got a hotel room at the Manila Airport hotel, and just kicked back for the rest of the day until I straightened out my ticket. Next morning I did it again and got out. I hate that airport. It seems my luck runs out in Manila and half the time its the crappy infrastructure and the way they conduct business there. I ask a question and get alot of blank stares. I like to see that airport in Manila in the rear view mirror of that JUMBO 747.

This is exactly what I meant when I said in Asia, your ticket MUST specify exactly From-To, else they don't take it unless you run into some SUPER DUPER NICE ground staff. Its not just in MNL, almost all ports in Asia does that. I once flew my own airline out of CAN, the silly ground manager wanted to rip off my first leg as I did not use it. She claims that "I'll have to take back your first leg since its out of sequence" . I tried my best to explain to that numb skull that it does NOT matter as it is ZED and we are charged by sectors. In the end, I lost but then the ticketing office in CAN said i was right and so did other ticketing office.

To cut the story short I flew out of HKG with my spare ticket

Hi. I'm not to surprised that NRT-MNL does not equal MNL-NRT, at least from my limited experience. I'm always surprised that my "milk run" JFK-NCE ZED on DL s MUCH cheaper (by a factor of 250%) than the other way around, presumably because of airport takes.

Interesting. I too noticed the zed ticket was cheaper coming back from MNL to NRT than from NRT to MNL. Not by much but a few dollars less.
