    Default Cambodia, siem reap area

It looks like I will be taking a short trip to the Siem Reap area in a couple of weeks. Another employee goes over there a few times a year to take supplies to an orphanage and I asked if I could join her. I figured this would be a good 1st overseas non rev trip, going with a person who has been there before. And hopefully get my travel nerves settled down so I will start travelling more, non rev, overseas (from the U.S.).

I am not sure how long I will be there but guessing 3 nights. I enjoy photography so I know I will have to hit the temples if I have time, as I will be helping her if I can. The other thing she mentioned was the floating village.

We will be landing in BKK and most likely take a taxi from there to Siem Reap. Not spending any real time in Bangkok-just sleeping as flights land at midnight and leave back in the early morning hours.

Anyone have anything that needs to be seen, tasted or visited in the Siem Reap area?

Oh, I will be traveling from Salt Lake City through LAX/SFO/SEA depeding on loads through NRT to BKK. Most likely Delta, but if needed United.

    Thanks, Tony

a taxi to Siem Reap? wow--let us know how that works! I have a driver I've used for BKK and outlying areas. Let me know if you need him. He's taken us south to Hua Hin, but I would not have considered going as far as REP except by train or air.

"Scam buses", how there's a phrase that will give a traveler pause.

I would gladly use seat61.com for Asia train travel. Did you mean you'll travel bus/train then taxi? I said taxi from BKK, yes?

I am not sure if we will be taking the same taxi from Bangkok to Siem Reap or not. I would guess we are taking the same taxi from at least the border crossing. The person I am going with goes a few times a year so she might have a contact that can pick is up in Bangkok. More than likely its one taxi (maybe driver would be a better word if it is someone she deals with) then it might be taxi from Bangkok to border then another from border to Siem Reap.Anyways, should be fun.Tony

I want to hear ALL about the whole trip when you get back, please! Stay safe and have a wonderful time! We're looking at projects to do in retirement and that sort of "mission" is what we'd want to add to a travel destination.
