Not bad. You flew to Inchon first than to PEK? Not a bad idea.

I think other way around, palms. DTW-PEK, then PEK-ICN. You need a confirmed ticket from PEK to be allowed into the country, so it's cheaper to go to another country in Asia than it is to go back overseas. Also, since it's a transit visa (that is, going through China to get to another country) you can't do US-CN-US or something like that.

    Sweet!

We did the Novotel Xin Qiao for an airline rate of $68 per night and it included 3 buffet breakfasts daily and 1 laundered item daily.

I went there several years ago to represent a factory. Pearl River--huge, new airport or easily accessible by train from HKG.
    P&G has offices there.

hmmm, any idea if that's already effective? I just checked TIMATIC to see if it said anything about using rail or some other form of transportation to HKG, and it looks like it's a 24 hour thing. Searching for an NRT-CAN-SIN itinerary with US citizenship:

Guangzhou is set to become the third Chinese city to allow visa-free transits for foreign travellers.

The policy will allow visitors holding third-country visas and onward plane tickets from Baiyun airport to stay in Guangzhou for up to 72 hours without the need of a visa, reported by Chinese Xinhua News Agency. According to Zou Yingping, public relations assistant at China Southern Airlines, an application has been submitted and is pending the customs authority’s approval. The policy is likely to be implemented within the year.

Just returned from Houston where I picked up visas for my wife and I.... And I did it with a copy of our stand-by itinerary, hotel reservation and without an invitation letter!

Oh, that's awesome! I don't usually have reservations; I guess I could have used the crew hotel and his ID--or used points then cancelled the room.
Where and when are you going? I have 2 trips to Shanghai--one in July and one early August (spill trip for him) Then he switches to NY and flies EU. It's so flipping hot and humid now and the air quality is hardly the best in China.
I highly recommend the DTW 777 flight to Shanghai or BEijing, vs west coast legs on some AC, but SEA uses a 76W and those are pretty comfy, even with your legs kinda slipped under the seat console in front of you. NRT has been full often--most gateways.
