Around 1998 or so, doing ETOPS flight to HKG, but some lady decided to start to pump out a baby half way from GUM to HKG, so plane diverted to TAIWAN, in Taipei. Taiwanese police show up with uzi's, and made sure nobody left the plane. I had to do an ETOPS pre-departure check, some paperwork involving me to go to the main office to make a phone call to Texas to get some control number, in the middle of the night, raining, and drizzling, cold. Driver almost killed us both by almost slamming into a fuel truck. Took care of business there with the phone call, turned in the paperwork, he said he would have it entered in the computer system. We then offloaded the lady in Taiwan airport, don't know what happened to her, we then took off after I did my business. Then went to HKG, and back to GUM/SPN. Next day I get a phone call from GUM management asking me why I didn't enter the paperwork, to which I replied......"Talk to your man in Taiwan. He said he would take care of that."
Yes, the only time I set foot in Taiwan was on a diversion when lady decided to go into labor 30,000 feet above the clouds.
