When I go to the login page the box for "Remember Me?" is checked, yet every day when I come back to the site I have to log in again. Is there a problem with the way the site cookies are designed? In case it has any bearing, I am using the latest version of Mozilla Firefox as my browser.

Hmm.... I'm using Firefox most of the time as well and it always remembers me. Have you ever used the Firefox option that lets you reject cookies for all sites except the ones you specify? If not, I'd try going to the link on the forum home that says "delete cookies set by this board". It's towards the bottom just before the site stats. Let me know if that doesn't work and I'll give it some more thought.

Well I just double checked, I have the browser set to accept cookies from this site. I tried the "delete cookies set by this board" link as well. It still doesn't work when I close the browser and the open it again I have to log in again for this site. Meanwhile I tried it with Internet Explorer and it remembers me there. Weird.

Well.... if you deleted the cookies, the very next time back, you'd have to input your username and password because the cookie should be gone. But maybe it would set a new one then so your second time back it would remember you??

Ok, all this cookie talk is making hungry, headed to the kitchen now to see if there are any cookies there I can delete.

I thought of that, but the next time I came back I still had to log in again. Same for this visit as well. Weird. Only on this site though.

I think I am a hard case. My computer is retarded. I have erased all cookies and started from scratch. I set Firefox to allow cookies from nonrev.net, and it still won't remember me on this site if I close Firefox and come back. But it works in IE. I do have one curious observation though. When I view the cookies in Firefox, most of the cookies show as expiring at the end of the session. However, the member id cookie shows an expiration date of tomorrow, and the password hash cookie shows an expiration date of the very minute I logged in, which to me suggests it won't work for the next time I come back to the site. I tried to look at the cookies in IE, but for some reason I can't view them.

Again, in case it helps, I am using Windows Vista Home Premium, with the latest version of Firefox and the latest version of IE.

Was it working for you before in IE?

Can you try something for me? When you come to the Community Home (the page with all the boxes of the latest posts/topics) don't log-in there. Instead select the "Forums" link at top in the dark blue navigation bar. Log-in from the Forum index and let me know if it remebers your password from there.

I've hired a developer to do some work. The page that you're now directed to upon log-in is a component that I had added. When I log-in from there it's not remembering my password at all but when I log-in from the forum index it does. So I'm just wondering if others are experiencing the same. I'm trying to get that ironed out.

I cant say for sure about IE, I only remember the problem since switching over to firefox...

I logged in the way you said and it didnt work...BUT...I did some playing around and found that when I clicked on the BROWN Community button along the top of the page where the buttons go left to right, it doesnt remember me, but when I enter using the big BLUE button on the right side of the page where the links are top to bottom it will remember be...

the brown community button at the top (the one that does not remember me) has the link -

where as the blue community button on the right (the one that will remember me) has the link -

    Chris,
For reference I have also had this problem a few times. It seems to lose my identity when I connect to the internet in different ways .. i.e. the system will recognise me if I connect to the internet via my office LAN ... if I then connect via home broadband it does not recognise me and I have to log in again then ( even if I mark the Remember Me box ) when I next log in via the office LAN it does not recognise me ... rather than just using cookies does the system also try to use your IP address to identify you ?? ... if so this need to be changed as it is no longer practical with the proloferation of dynamic IP addressing.

    P.S. I'm also using IE6
