    Default How accurate is Travelnet?

One of my co-workers was flying out and had me watching Travelnet for him.
When it came down to clearing stand-by pax, the airport stand-by list was down to zero seats, with my co-worker showing removed.
I told him the bad news and then he told me he had to go because they were clearing him.
After the fact, he told me that there 4 open seats on his flight. I looked in Travelnet and sure enough, it showed 4 available seats.
    Why the discrepancy?

    Anybody ever experience this before?

travelnet is very accurate and pulls straight from deltaterm...the issue with travelnet is within about 20-25minutes before departure so much is happening on that flights seat assignements and passenger numbers that each refresh could give you a different number...if I am watching a flight for my ppr riders, I dont even trust deltaterm within that time frame because I know the gate agents are doing things that may not be entered in deltaterm right away...

i have worked flights oversold, no seats available for standby and leave with all standbys cleared and seats still available...seats will open up when we cancel noshow passengers and also when we verify that virtual check in passengers are not on board...normally happens close to departure time and it is sometimes after the flights leave that we pull rev pax seat assignments and show nonrevs with seat assignments and on board, that is why you should never leave the gate until the plane does or you could miss out on an available seat...

I agree DeltaFlyer. Twice I have made the flight after the gate agent made the "I'll roll all the standbys over to the next flight" speech. When he/she realized seats still available and started calling names.... I was still there

Only once did we abandon a gate--10 mins before departure:
the agent had just paid off two rev pax to fly next day--hotel vouchers etc.
We went to our hotel and saw the flight went out with 4 empty seats but 2 S4's got on. That was a thousand dollar error on a seat count!!

The trickiest are the commuter airports like JFK/LGA and ATL--no shows and last minute shows. Even travelnet can't be accurate in those circumstances!

I never give my "buddy pass" people any numbers for up front...just that they'll be lucky to get on the back.

My partner and I are about to purchase S4's to europe. The flights to Europe this summer (late May, ealrly June) are very expensive. I have to wonder if that is one of the reasons why there are so many seats still avail and we are less than 100 days from departure. I know that could change. If the tix prices were to drop-we would just buy our own seats, but there is no sign of that happening.

The info shared on this forum has been very helpful and planning for all of the "what if's" . This is our first time to be non-rev passengers. It seems knowledge is key and so I am trying to learn all I can. I am little more concerened about getting home as those flights look more booked...but not still anywhere being fillled. In fact, I have looked at buying tickets to Gatwick (easyjet or ryanair) as there should be more seats avail to the US, since there are more flights.

Thanks again for all the helpful info...

Thanks rlsrlj. Nonrev.net is all about helping our fellow NRSA traveler navigate those sometimes tricky nonrev skies.

key is fllexibility andNOT choosing the most popular cities like FCO--go for Pisa, MXP etc
or alternatives in Spain, like AGP, etc. think outside teh rev box and become one with nonrev...
you cn change an S4 pass for $25 + distance charges abd keep in mid taxes vary ALOT in EU--
$35-60 for many cities--almosr$150 for UK
