My name is Paul and I work in the IT department of British Airways and am based near London's Heathrow Airport. I will try to help with info I have about London and Great Britain although most of my travels are out of GB.

    Paul

I have posted a message in the Europe forum seeking travel info to London possibly next May. Should I stay at a hotel by LHR or should I try to find something in the city? Where is a convenient and safe place to stay in London? I haven't been there for years. Also thinking about going to Paris and need info there also. Thanks

    corgi,
I've replied on your original thread. May would be a good time to visit as you'll get the late spring weather. Note that we have two Public Holidays in May on the 2nd and 30th which means theres a tendancy for outdoor events to take place over these weekends.

Corgi we stay at the Holiday Inn-Victoria, a great base of operations. The hotel is across the street from Victoria train and bus stations and within walking distance of Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament. For sightseeing we walk or take the bus, however we have splurged and once hired a car with driver. Yes it was a little more expensive than the packaged tours, BUT we went only where we wanted and stayed as long as we wanted. Bonus, by the end of the day the driver had become one of our merry band and we spent the evening in his favorite pub toasting Manchester United and the Oakland Raiders. (That guy really loved Manchester )

    Hi Mig,
Thanks for the thoughts. It's a horrible thing to happen especially to those directly affected however the British spirit is made of strong stuff. Over the many centuries we've been wounded often but always fought back and we will again. This is not the first time a group have tried to force their values on our nation and they, like the previous protagonists, will not prevail.

    Hi Paul,

Got a question. Are you familiar with the interline agreement between Aerlingus and BA? Can an EI staff ticket from NYC - LHR via DUB (airline listed EI) be used to take a BA flight instead? someone told me that i could do this.

The actual agreement between BA and EI is as part of the Oneworld package. This states that BA travel on EI and EI travel on BA is at the ZM ZED fare and not at face value so BA would not have to take the ticket however they might take it as a courtesy if there was enough value on the two tickets.
