Thank you, thank you for your kind advice. We just returned from our cruise in the med. Flew into ZRH without problem, bought id95's on Swiss (but can't sit in business on Swiss unless coach is full according to everyone we asked). You were a godsend in getting through the process for us who had never bought them in europe.

    A warning though...

Tried to fly to BCN at the end of the cruise from NCE and s___ hit the fan. Iberia and their subsidiary (don't know the name of the company) will not accept ID 95's from Delta, even though we had the paperwork that said we could buy them. We bought the ID95's from the delta office and bought the passes for a Swiss flight as a backup plan. The Delta office then closed for the day. We went to check in, and the Iberia ticket counter agent called Madrid and the main Iberia office said no; They also have some sort of arrangement with the Airfrance flight to BCN so no go on Airfrance as well. The Airfrance ticket agent was EXTREMELY helpful (one of those folks who go the extra mile in trying to help, he was wonderful); he called Paris, tried to get us on but they called Madrid and the same runaround...To make matters worse, our backup plan of Swiss unraveled as the Delta agent incorrectly filled out the ticket and didn't include the connecting city and we couldn't use the tickets. We were stuck and had no way of getting out to anywhere else. We ended up taking the overnight train to BCN to arrive 2 hours before our flight.

On another note, we chose BCN b/c there appeared to be 25+ seats in business (got the travelnet emailed to us the day before). The seats evaporated and it was really tight. I checked the next day when we got home, 30+ in business, not oversold in coach and the same thing happened, no buddy passes got on...Got any thoughts on how that happens?? Just curious b/c shook my faith on picking what city to fly out of.

Thanks again for all your help, thought of you often as we referred to your 'atlanta to europe on DL' which we used as our guidebook!

Just a reminder--there are lots of cheap airlines in Europe. A few years ago I flew confirmed on Virgin Express from Brussels to Barcelona for slightly more than an ID90.

Thanks. I almost had bought aireurope passes before we left, but didn't. We tried everyone (easyjet, virgin express, etc), but everyone was sold out by the afternoon we were trying to leave. We literally went to every counter trying to go anywhere. It was just a bad sequence of events!
