"Fly without Reservation"...thats my motto, and I live by it!

I currently work for a non-profit aide organization in Lausanne, Switzerland, just outside of Geneva. I am originally from Atlanta, Ga USA and come from a long line of Delta Airlines employees, and myself have interned and worked for DL.

I use my spare time to travel around Europe and the rest of the world. I am also an avid snow-skiier and rock-climber and love to share beta on the best rocks around the world.

My 'travel-planning strength' is in getting around in Europe by interlining, and am always learning something new. If I don't know the answer or recommendation, I probably know someone at the airport who does!

Please feel free to post any question you may have.

Also...come to Switzerland anytime. It is a great place to visit and an even better place to live!

    Matt,
I spent a wonderful summer as a young adult in the German part of Switzerland. Have not yet made it back. When I do I will look to you for the information of how to get there.
    Welcome to the correspondant group.

    Hello "Fly without reservation",
I had a question about flying nonrev on Delta to Stuttgart at the end of November 2003 and I was advised to ask you directly. Here is the post:
    "Hello everyone,
I have a question that may be best addressed to "Fly without reservation" or Chris from atlanta, but I wanted to throw it out for anyone. I originally posted about a trip to Copenhagen, Denmark and Frankfurt Germany, but I never made it to Germany due to not having enough time. I would like to try again at the end of November, possibly the 24th - 29th, or 30th. Would it be a good decision to try this going standby on Delta flight 116 to Stuttgart out of ATL using an S3 priority? I ask because of Thanksgiving holiday and because delta is running special fares to Europe this Fall and Winter. Any info is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!"

    Chris,
Please forgive me for not getting to this sooner! At this point in time DL116 to STR looks great for the whole week of Thanksgiving. There are 20+ BusinessElite seats open every day and 20-30+ in coach depending on day. DL116 is mainly heavy from STR to ATL during holidays. DL's serves STR because of the US military operations in the city, so it is heavy the opposite directions bookending the holidays from Soldiers going home and returning. At this point you should be fine. Just keep watching the availability. Your logical backups would be FRA (we have 2 flights daily; one is a 777) and MUC (Munich). Both are short train rides away and both other cities offer region service on Lufthansa. On the 30th coming back the DL117 is WIDE OPEN. Generally you want to watch Tues/Wed before Thanksgiving and Sun following due to school holidays and families headed over. You will incur a higher non-rev rate on all of these flights, but S3 will be fine. I would speculate based on the current numbers that S4 Buddy passes would even be safe. The only thing priority will determine is Class of service. I can only fly on S3 and I wouldn't sweat it.

But always remember...you never know!! Anyhoo....let me know if you have any more questions. I will try to post an update on seat availability closer, but don't hold me to it! If you are traveling S3, I assume you have easy access to the inventory. DeltaNet and the TravelineVRU are your friend! And if you have access to DeltaMatic, its your lover!!

Have fun and send a trip report!

Thank you for your reply "fly without reservation"

I am trying to peg my travel dates to leaving Tuesday the 25th of November and return on Tuesday December 2nd. I guess if Tuesday starts to get booked up I can move the dates up one day.

The friend I am going to visit in Germany would like to spend the weekend of the 28th - 30th of November in Paris and I had talked to a reservations associate in ATL a week ago about Air France flights from STR - CDG. She informed me that non dependents and buddy passes are able to take these flights on an ID96 because they have Delta flight #'s (8493, 8491 and 8492). Can you give me any details about this and how the loads look? Also, if I am able to get the ID96's, can I get them at any airport?

Thanks again, and sorry for being so long winded.

i am a first time non rever. my wife and i are trying to fly out of cincinnati on delta to paris june 17th and trying to come back around june 30th. I was hoping someone could answer questions about loads for these dates and the next few around them. i have seen the delta seat map site on the bendelman.org website but just wanted something a little more definite. also can a person with delta buddy passes travel on air france now? i have read that we cannot fly on air france. also, any help with planning alternatives to get there and back would be greatly appreciated as i am completely new to this entire process. thank you....brian

ps. i have already read the suggested tip article. :?)
