Hello,

I am new to the board and I would like to go to Greece next year. This will be the first European trip with my husband. Of course a cruise would be the ultimate vacation but I am unable to cruise due to motion sickness. My question: What would be the best time of the year to travel when it's not so crowded and the flights would probably not be overbooked? I was thinking mid September and which islands? I was thinking Athens (2 days tops then perhaps Corfu and Mykonos. I would like to stay for perhaps 10 days.

Thanks for your help

Wow, deja vu...or is this some scheme to get me to rent "Groundhog Day" again?

Hi Love2travel welcome to the forum. So you need some help with Greece. If you want Paul, the United Kingdom correspondent, to get notification of your question, post your question in his correspondent's thread and he'll get an e-mail notice. Paul's thread

I did a quick search and found that one member did mention going on a cruise that included visting the Greek Islands, however that was several months back and I don't know if that member is still active, but I will send her a PM and tell her of your interest. Also new members are joining all the time and there could be a Greece fan on line tomorrow.
BTW, I suffer with motion sickness too, (left my mark on ferries from Massachusetts to Washington state ) but you mentioned a cruise would be the 'ultimate"; before you give up on your dream talk to your doctor about the new motion sickness remedies and keep ME posted.

Hope this helps

I can't give you any specifics on Greece, but I can tell you that mid-September thru October are awesome times to visit the Mediterranean! The heat of the summer is subsiding, tourists are leaving and prices are down.

Hi there love2,
Unfortunately I can't give too many specifics on Greece as the last time I was there was about 15 years ago. From what I remember September was the tail end of the season and so was not so busy however don't leave it too late because once the temperature and sun levels dip, the tourist trade drops off and the restuarants and hotels start to close. The time we went was 2nd week of Oct and the temperatures took a dive below 20c whilst we were there and suddenly most of the restuarants and attractions started to close, about 80% of them by the time we decided to leave early after 5 days. The best was between the various island is by the ferry system ( see http://www.greekferries.gr for routes and more info ). Not too sure if you intend flying direct to ATH from the States or going via an intermediate point in Europe. 'Fraid I can't help on the US-ATH flight info ( you could ask on the US board if anyone has experience of them ). As far as European connections to ATH are concerned most of the capital cities have between 5 and 10 flights a day to ATH so there should be a few seats around ( provided you are not at peak time and there's no Olympics going on!!). If you are concerned about travelling standby to ATH in Europe you could always check out prices on one of the low cost carriers ( Ezyjet, Hellasjet etc ).
