Hey, don't be that harsh... I fly a lot and this happens only once a year.

Listen to this one. You won't believe it:

LHREZE 15JUN:

They confirmed in WT+ and went to the gate. Then the flight went tech and they offloaded about 20 passengers including revenue ones. The weird thing is that BA gave me a hotel and three meals for the following day. I checked with the ground staff before accepting this and they say it was common practice when given a boarding card.

LHR-GRU 16JUN

So the following day I go to try the GRU flight. It was way overbooked but I still tried. Bad news they were about 20 BA staff so I was left behind since they were only 5 seats available.

Here is when the luck changed. I stayed there for an extra 10 minutes and guess what?? 4 more seats became available and all the other BA staff who were there had gone so... I got the seat!

Heh, that sounds like something that happened to me recently. I was trying to nonrev to Amsterdam from Minneapolis on a flight that was overbooked by like 13. I actually did initially get a seat - but then the agent came on the airplane and pulled me off, said better luck next time. I decided to just hang around until the door was actually closed. Sure nuff, somebody who had checked in was nowhere to be found, there was one seat open - and I got it.

i think that is one of the basics when travelling on standby. if you have the time to wait and don't need to rush to catch another filght always wait until the doors are closed. there are always people who don't catch their flights,especially on big hubs where a lot of transfer passengers travelling.
