If you've not tried it out before then go to the Cafe de Paris for Steak and Chips ... thats all they do there .... Steak and Chips but they do it very nicely .... see ... http://www.cafe-de-paris.ch/.
Also just wander around the Altstadt ( Old town ), rest at a cafe or two and sample the Ice Cream.
Take a trip out on the Zurichsee or wander through the parks alongside the lake. Its not as dramatic as Geneva with its iconic Jet d'eau but still very pleasant.

Is there a Cafe de Paris in Zurich? That link is for Geneva. Thanks for the effort!

They used to have a smaller restaurant ( franchise ?? ) in Zurich when I was last there but that was several years ago, Didn't look at the web site before posting and can't find the details there so looks like it might no longer be around so you'll have to ignore that suggestion as I can't remember where it was to give directions.

I'll hunt around for the Zurich one--it just sounds perfect for a classic meal! (despite the amount of fat in their meat and those frites!!!) I can hear my arteries hardening right now!

Good timing on the Zurich topic! I snatched up 2 confirmed tickets on DL yesterday BWI-JFK-ZRH-JFK-BWI for late Aug at $297pp after taxes.....I could not pass it up. So I've been searching through older posts here about Zurich and want to know if anyone has some more recent experiences with budget lodging in Zurich or elsewhere in Switzerland. Maybe some places you know that offer an airline rate?

Haha, I know....budget lodging in Switzerland is probably non-existant outside of a hostel, but I gotta try right?

Of course it all depends what you mean by budget !!! You'll pay a lot more to stay in the city centre.
When I was working out there ( a few years ago now ) we were put up at the Hilton at the airport ( mind you I was working at the airport ) which wasn't too bad as it was only 15 mins to get to the city centre on the train.
Get rates at the Hilton site using rate code TA.
You could also check our Zuerich.com for info on transport day pass prices and special tourist cards/promotions.

Thanks, I wasn't able to see any lower rate available for my dates using that code but I'm still trying to make it work.

try hilton.com/travelagentoffers
not all hotels are included
airport is very not far from city center via train/tram
there is swissotel Oerliker station (sp?)
a few blocks away is winterthur hotel
can't recall names of places in the center, but, when lunch is $25 person, don'r ecpect a deal
transport ticket is $8US for 24 hrs and if you show it at dock (whoaaa---just fixed a BAD typo!!), the boat fare around lake is half fare
use supermarkets like co-op for food and have picnics--take a flat insulated coolerpack to carry food around+ziploc bags (I am not kidding how $$$ meals are--shared pizza, small glass house wine, med bottle water was $30
swiss franc is almost on par w/dollar
dunno if there are any there, but use accorhotels.com
SC006924872
code 32474 for special rates of $25-75% off space avail read terms carefully before booking--no refund?
PS--get guidebook--english, french, german speakers everywhere--so polite!! many german speakers don't understand the swiss tongue at all, FYI
