    Default April in Paris...

Heading back this weekend. Boss has 24 hr rotations w/24 hr gap so I'll stay in Montparnasse to await his return two days later. Research has yielded some goodies: It's Breton area, so creperies abounding (YUM), local market on Tuesday (eye candy) and lovely boulevards to wander--cafes galore and did I mention crepes? There is a very scenic cemetery nearby or I can take the long walk to Luxembourg Gardens. I am so very blessed as a nonrev to have this incredible gift (and an amazing husband). Bon appetit and Happy Easter to all.
Now accepting any tips for Paris, particularly that area, if you have them. One convenient point for me is the AF bus--stops right at the hotel--Bienvenue Paris! No RER/steps/Metro etc--worth 17 euros.

So, in Montparnesse there are the catacombs, I thought this was an interesting place. And if you have not been, take the subway to the Pere Lachaise Cemetery. Both of these places is why I want to return to Paris, mainly to photograph more (need tripod in the catacombs for better photo's).

Also in that area (near the catacombs) is a street full of reasonably prices shopping (shoes etc) and a food street (I think pedestrian, but can not remember). We just walked around that area but I think this stuff was west of the catacombs.

I think one cemetery is enough--this is short walk from hotel, hosts the graves of Bartholdi, Dreyfus, Du Maupassant,Citroen....I'm not sure about doing the catacombs, since I have a bit of "underground phobia". Tell me more of your experience there, please.
The food street should be Rue de Montparnasse and markets are Blvd Raspail. I plan to take comfy shoes, muscle cream and hot baths after a long day...

The catacombs feel like you are walking down a long hallway with no windows. They have lights. You walk some distance before you get to the bones. They do not allow flash where the bones are located. There are LOTS of bones. Its just interesting to see all the bones and how they made designs in the walls of bones.
If you know the story (mentioned on the website) or not the tunnels were the quarries where they pulled the limestone from to build some of paris. Then when the cemeteries started to fill up they started putting the bones underground in the quarry.

Anyways, I thought it was better than I expected. One thing, go early (get there 45 minutes before they open) or you could be standing in line for a couple of hours.
