Low-cost carrier Norwegian has pledged $69 (£53) fares for next year. The airline already offers £149 flights to American hotspots like New York and Las Vegas, but will drop prices further when a shipment of new planes arrive.
The Telegraph reports that the airline is waiting on 100 Boeing 737 MAX 8 airliners that boast new fuel-efficient engines and better aerodynamics, making flights across the Atlantic more cost-effective.
Business Insider reports that the Boeing 737 Max 8 is expected to enter service with launch partner Southwest Airlines during the third quarter of 2017.
Thomas Ramdahl, Norwegian's chief commercial officer, told the site: "I can promise you that you will see transatlantic flights on the 737 Max next year. And that's when you will see the $69 fares."
