I understand and respect the need for additional airport security. And believe that they have a somewhat thankless job. However, I agree with you that there are total strangers walking onto planes while we employees who underwent federal background checks to get the ID that we are wearing are forced to go thru this additional screening. What it does is slow down the whole process and is potentially letting thru those that would do harm onboard.
