i'm holding a roundtrip interline ticket on southwest. however, i didn't realize that the ticket is valid only for three months from the date of issue. i am on an extended leave and will not use the return ticket until 6 months later. will southwest extend the validity of my return ticket or do i have to apply for another southwest interline ticket for my return leg? i am hoping to extend the validity of my return ticket because the airline i work for only allows 2 interline requests a year.

Your best bet is to call your pass bureau. Generally you return the old for a refund and request a new one. Just remember 90 days is pretty standard on most interline tickets.

While ID (i.e., ID75, ID90, etc.) tickets are usually valid for 90 days only, ZED tickets which are valid for 6 months.

What I find interesting, though, is your last comment "the airline i work for only allows 2 interline requests a year".

In the past ID90 travel was generally limited to 1 ticket per year on a bilateral basis, however, many US carriers have, over the years, bilaterally increased the allotment to 6 (in some cases unlmited). ZED tickets are unlimited.

I'd be curious to learn what airline you work with.
