Starting July 1 Northwest employees (active & retired) will have to pay an ANNUAL fee of $50pp (capped at $200 per family) to particpate in the carrier's 'pass travel' program.
" Northwest Airlines said the the annual fees will partially offset some of the cost of providing 'non-revenue travel."
The new fee is expected to bring in $5.7 million a year.

    Poll question--
If your carrier institued a yearly fee to particpate in its pass program, would you "pay or pass".
--Since I couldn't find the poll option, you'll have to post a response. (and yes Randy, I really looked)

Yes---while I don't like it, pass travel is still a great value.

    No----I'll stop using passes

Depends---it depends on the fee and how much I intend to travel during the year.

Modify the pass program (plan A)---instead of a particpation fee, limit passes to employee and family, eliminating "friends/buddy passes" will not only save the airline money, but maybe then I'll be able to get a seat out of ATL/DFW/ORD/PHL... (you get the idea).

Modify pass program (plan ---instead of a fee I like the idea of a A/B/C tier scale for passes.[/list]

WOuld depend on the type of travel. In my case, much of mine is International, so yes, I'd pay it. If it was domestic or regional travel, then I'd have to think long and hard, as these days with all the sales, misloaded fares, web fares, LCC competition etc, nonrevving against pos space low fares on offer don't really make nonrevving all that attractive anymore.
My last travels through NthAm, I ended up getting a lot of cheap specials (LAX-HNL for USD99.00 & YYZ-ORD for CAD49.00 as examples) rather than play the nonrev game.

I too travel internationally and often travel from the East Coast to HNL. I have been to HNL 10 times in the 9yrs that I have worked for my airline and each time I have gotten first class. I have also been to MBJ 8 times along with traveling to CUN and SJU. I have been to AMS and LGW 3 times (first class) and I can't count the numerous domestic flights.

I feel that it is definately worth the $50.00 per year that they are charging. In addition, we can purchase a confirmed seat at 20% discount which I have purchased on several trips. A few of my co-workers purchased a ticket from DCA to LAS with their 20% discount, it only cost them $80.00 round-trip and that was confirmed seat.

I don't mind doing my part to help raise revenue for the company ( I may be in the minority but that's the way I feel)

I probably would pay the fee (not $50.00, though) for myself and my kids but not for my husband. He just hates nonrev travel so he barely uses it.
