When I worked air cargo at SLC, we had three guys get canned because of trying to sell buddy passes. They were all involved in the same transaction and got caught when the buyer raised a stink at the airport when he actually had to pay the buddy pass fare on top of what he had paid for the passes. They had either neglected to tell him about this or he just forgot.

Our current 'Buddy pass" system is pretty useless for domestic flights - in the end the cost is almost as much as a regular confirmed seat!
With our Buddies, they have to be registered by the staff member on the employee site and the fees come out of my cheque.

Delta's Buddy Pass system isn't too bad. There are no certificates to hand out anymore.....the employee goes on the employee website and can have them paid for and issued from there. Then you can e-mail the recipient the info and it's pulled up electronically at the airport.

I am very very picky and careful who I give my buddy passes too...I have family members that I wont even give them too...I am on a couple of Yahoo email groups that deal with aviation and get emails all the time from folks on those lists that ask to buy my buddy passes...no way!!

Chafetz, interviewed on a business trip to Thailand, said he was "very disappointed" that the company declined their request.
"I think it's [US Airways'] responsibility," he said. "They should take the loss."
Basically he is saying that he doesnt want to take responsibility for his own life and wants someone else to do it for him, why should USAirways take a loss based on an employees actions that is not related to them doing their job...USAirways refunded the monies that the globetrotter paid them (interviewed in Thailand and wants a cheap trip to Germany) and that is all they are obligated to do!
These people that are buying the buddy passes are more knowledgeable about the rules than we think they are. They know exactly what they're getting into and try to get something for nothing. They could care less of the consequences to the employee......if they get fired, they just find another.

Yep - sad but true.
I gave my allotment of signed paper tickets to my RTC so she can fly without hassle if she wants to (I'd still have to list her but this way she has the paper passes in hand).
This person could use them all at once and it still wouldn't be enough to pay her back fro all she's done for me.

As I'm not married or in a LTR I could pick one person who I'm not romantically attached to as a 'registered travel companion' to have an extra 8 'buddy passes' a year. Out of all my freinds, she and her husband have been very good to me over the years and she's like my sister.
