Anybody on the Forum from UA? If so, I have question. Does UA charge their international fuel service charge to nonrev pax? We have a walkup agreement that our Pass Bureau claims to know little about except it's ZED low, walkup. They can't tell me anything about taxes or whether or not the fuel service charge is applied. Not looking for a trip all the way up to ORD to find out the answer. Thanks!

Yeah, but I didn't have to do the 'driving' to SVO! And you've seen the traffic on the Tri-State!

I am not from UA but I can tell you that there is no fuel surcharge on a ZED ticket but one on ID90 or ID 75

I'm from UA, but I guess that since your original post was July, you may have found the answer by now !

To be honest, it depends from station to station.
Internationally, we work differently to domestically.

We still apply to other airlines for interline travel as well as utilising the self ticketing agreements. Generally, applying for interline travel on another carrier is
restricted to business travel, but on occasion, also for pleasure travel.
In London, we have a list which has been compiled from the monthly interline lunches that are held where the person responsible for ' Industry travel ' from each carrier usually attends. It's networking !

Our policy is, if another carrier charges us, we charge them !

However, I appreciate your question is directed towards a domestic market and to be honest, your best bet is to walk up to the ticket desk and purchase a ticket, if they charge you the YQ ( Fuel Surcharge ), challenge it !
If they are hell bent, tell them to void the ticket.

I am anti fuel surcharges. As employees, we pay more than enough government taxes on tickets, which far exceed the fare we actually pay.
Over the years, the amount of tax we pay increases, fuel surchage internationally stands at £181 roundtrip, so almost $400 - it's no joke !

Since it is not self-ticketing, i.e., where WN tickets WN employees to travel on UA and vv, then it's not a ZED agreement in the truest sense. It's an agreement where both carriers have agreed to use zonal fares similar or equal to ZED fares. Therefore, the ZED rules don't really apply.

UA is free to do what they want unless your staff travel office has specifically negotiated that they not collect fees other than the ZED fare + government/airport taxes/fees/charges.

Hey there,

Well To really answer this question thoroughly, I decided to go into my system and book the open tickets and see what charges are accessed.

Here is what I determined.... Southwest Employees purchase their tickets for use on United (non-rev) at any "True UA" not "United Express" station ticket counter.

The fare we charge to Southwest Employees is based on the ZED tariff (Coach Only).

Example international fare charged: San Francisco to London (Round Trip/Return)

Fare Total: $272.71

Base Fare: $114
US Taxes/Service Charges: $85.64
UK Taxes: $72.36

No YQ (Fuel Tax) was accessed.

Hope this helps

Tod.
