So, as I mentioned in my introduction, I worked for NW at MSP over the summer, just a temporary part time job so I could spend the summer nonreving. I'm still an employee, technically, but inactive. They took my airport security badge as well as my NWA badge on my last day. A few weeks after I was done, I could no longer get into our employee website. I figured it was because I was no longer active, no surprises there. Then, a couple weeks ago, I found out from a former coworker that we just had to reset our password, and we were back in. Surprise! It worked. Not only did it work, but it all seemed to be just the way it was when I was an active employee. I can see company news (yawn ). I can see flight availability. I can view flight waiting lists. And, from the looks of things, I can list for a flight. The page loads, and similar pages function.

Obviously, I haven't tried it, nor do I plan to, but.... it's like walking down the street, and you see a big red button. Next to it is a sign, one that says, "do not press the big red button." You can assume you'd get in trouble if you do, but in the back of your mind, you wonder what would happen. Would the booking request actually go through? If so, how far could I go with it? Would I be able to check in? Would my boarding pass scan? What if I need to relist because of a full flight, and the gate agent notices that I'm not an active employee? I think that the one point I'd be most likely to get caught in is if I were to fly a lot of international or F/C, seeing as how they take that out of my paycheck. Since I'm not an active employee, that'd raise a red flag when people up there have to ask, "what paycheck?"

Any thoughts? The curiosity here is driving me nuts

Bri-an, Bri-an, Brian, so your question is - Do we think there is an incredible loophole in the NW system that will allow you ( and other former NW employees) to fly for free?
    Ummmmm....let me think.....NO!
BTW, that strictly confidential bank transaction, where the Nigerian bank official will pay millions just for using your bank account......that's not going to work out either. I know, but I felt I had to break it to you.

To paraphrase the Sundance Kid- you just keep thinkin' Brian.

Yeah, I figured... I think the real issue is that I've seen Catch Me If You Can one too many times

Actually, I know someone at AA who was an inactive employee but had constant access to company's non-rev website (jetnet). He could also list and do all other fancy things. But he could not check in for any flights. He once tried to check in at the airport and was told that the system would not allow him to check in, although the agent did not know why. Of course he knew so he promptly left before he would get in trouble. He even tried to buy ZEDs and even that did not work. So as you can see, having access to the system and being able to list does not mean you can actually travel, when it's checkin time, you will be denied as the system wouldn't follow through with it.
