WANG is old school. That was the first PC I ever saw. Circa 1977 in High School. Mr. Dragseth was telling us that everything was going to become computerized one day. He had about three computers in his class and the ONLY computers in the school. We played FOOTBALL on it. Like you moved a key and a dash moved for the football. It would make kids today laugh if they saw how we played football on a WANG computer. We used to call Mr. Dragseth Mr DRAG BREATH cuz he could drag on about math and numbers like a real geek. Nice guy though. How about that? WANG COMPUTER. I wonder if they still teach METAL SHOP today. How many kids know how to use a RIVET GUN???[/b]

Cough, gasp--1977? old school? My Wang was 1972 and I was already out of college when you had your Wang in HS. Just having some fun!
Shop??---I wonder if schools are ALLOWED to have shop any more--I figured lawyers did away with shop a long time go! I loved rivet guns and tools--i was a daddy's girl who still prefers hardware stores to malls! Kids should make shop projects--but no ashtrays (not PC)--any ideas?

We programmed our Wang to change a tire on paper...

Very cool commercial indeed. Thanks for showing that one up here. Recruiting commercial likes to show "8th and I" Marines because they look crack sharp and drill like no other. Do you know what "8th and I" is? It's a STREET location in WASHINGTON DC. They intersect each other and that is where the Marine Corps DRILL TEAM is headquartered. Not far from the Washington DC Mall area. Most Marines will never become part of that team. They are HAND PICKED. Other Marines you don't see much in commercials are involved with INFANTRY, COMMUNICATIONS, AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE, TRACKED VEHICLE MECHANICS, MP'S, RADAR REPAIR and the list goes on and on.

Wang PC's in 1972 in colleges? I bet not all colleges had that kind of sophistication back then. For shop projects, we made rockets, with CO2 cartridge and shot them up in the air. Made racing cars again with co2. These guys loved co2. I remember making a wooden spice rack, I made a half table shelf, a metal tool tray. I remember dipping metal in chemicals to form lettering, melting down aluminum with blow torch and using sand for making the imprint of what you wanted to make and then you poured the melted aluminum in the sand pit to form what you were making. We used to make throwing stars out of aluminum. This guy tried to drill a hole in the middle and the star spun and cut up his thumb. What project do I recommend to students today? First you have to get them motivated and run them a few times around the school. Get the laziness out of them.

I actually don't see anything funny about this guy--he's a danger to the crew and passengers, aside from the horrible disturbance.

People who record and post these things serve no purpose--sorry, just my opinion--I was expecting humor and I'm sorry I wasted even a few minutes waiting for a reason to laugh[/b]

I don't think he was a danger. An idiot and disturbance? Big time! He is lucky he did not get a beat down from the passengers.
As a former F/A I do think the recording of this would serve a purpose in training and also in any prosecution that may have come about. That was probably not the objective of the videographer though.
I wonder what caused him to lose it. Is he mental? Is he afraid to fly or clausterphobic? I had two different flights in which a man started screaming and kicking and flailing his hands all around. It turns out on both of them they had been sleeping and had a dream the plane crashed.
I dealt with two drunks that wanted to be served more alcohol. One kept coming back to the galley and yelling. There were some big guys seated nearby that were close to taking him down. The other guy actually was taken down cold by someone and all the witnesses did not say a word.

You know what is a danger to passengers and crew?
The TSA.
They did a test at our checkpoints the other day in which they tried to get 6 phony bombs through and they got 5 of them through.
That scares the hell out of me. If that had been terrorists, we would have 5 blown up airliners and 100s of people dead.

OK, here's another clip you might enjoy--(the wonder of technology-humor. )
u-Tube-late Show Conan O'Brien)

Although I doubt C-19 and Jumper will understand the rotary phones (huh) and carbon paper-mechanical swipe credit card machine reference.

BTW M767, I had to look up "chortle", what are you trying to do, broaden my vocabulary? [/b]

I've used both of these devices in my many years.

I saw the Seinfeld the other day when they're lost in the parking garage. I remember before cell phones were commonplace, it was a different time.

The first time I called my mother on her first cell phone, she was in the grocery store, she said "how did you know I was here?"

"more cowbell" refers to a classic Saturday Night live skit starring Will Ferrell & Christopher Walken. Blue Oyster Cult song (Don't Fear) The Reaper, needs more cowbell.
"I've got a fever....and the only prescription is MORE COWBELL."

Couldn't find the whole skit, but this will give you the flavor
more cowbell
