I found out today that I've passed the application stage after applying for a job in another industry. It's a job that I think will add alot to my resume even if it may not be too interesting or exciting. Unfortunately I can't find an airline in North America who is really hiring right now outside of a few other front line positions. I would though like to return to the airline industry down the road, it's too much a part of me, and I love the travel and flexibility too much.

Long story short........... I already have 9-10 days of vacation arranged starting Oct 1st, and I'm now facing the possibility of this being my last opportunity to nonrev for who knows how long. My head is crammed with all the possibilities.

If you were in my position, where you decide you have to see? Or maybe there's a spot you've found before that you think you just need to go experience again? I'm really interested in how others here feel.

Spouse and I concur: South Africa!! Rand is fair exchange--low cost of living, gas is cheap. Cape Town and Cape of Good Hope, drive east along the coast, shark cage dive, move along to wineries and head to eastern cape for malaria free safari. Delta has NS only Joburg but I'm sure you can get SAA or one of the LLC to connect--or drive. We're going on Sunday and driving 4 hrs to Madikwe for our safari (the other malaria free zone) Don't think yellow fever is req'd (we already have shots) but update tetanus for sure!

Another option: Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, back to Cairo and head to Petra--fly out of Amman. Great 9-10 days

Can't wait to hear ideas from other NRs--great question!

South East Asia:

Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, soooooooooooooo sunny and plenty of fantastic beaches.......... to die for.
Even most of the best onboard service airlines are based there, so you will also have the opportunity to try them.

Also Seychelles... I went on april, absolutely gorgeous.

Assuming he's got the same contracts DL has, Asia might be tough for him to nonrev due to zed/ID costs. NW only gets us as far as HKG. I agree about Thailand (and Bali) being great places to go. Haven't done Vietnam or Cambodia but they're high on the list!! (gotta get to Spain, too!)

Allow me my two cents on the subject. Go where YOU WANT TO GO? Bottom line, go where your interest lay. What do you like to do? Sight see? Bar hop? Shopping? Mountain climbing? Lots to do around CONUS but I can agree with SPAIN, Buenos Aires, Bali, Beijing, its a huge world, lots to see out there. One poster here may like it somewhere in the middle east. Middle East? I didn't lose something there to make me want to go back to find it. PGW was quite some time ago too. Another poster likes Asia. Another poster likes Central America. Sometimes you gotta probe around. One man's misery is another man's gold. Just do it man.

I agree with '29 - But if I knew my days of travel footloose and Fairly fare free were ending, I'd hit Buenos Airese again (if anything for the sunrise over South America from 30K feet) and the Orient... And Syd, and CAI....

Oh what the hell! To be honest, it would take a lot to pry me away from my job as I'm terribly addicted to the travel side of it. Bad day? Plan a get away...

Like Jumper, I think Palms is on target--chase your interest. But since you asked for a helping hand
My top three- safari in Kruger National Park, tea ceremony in Toyko and looking for hobbits in New Zealand/seeing an opera at the Sydney opera House.

Do let us know what you decide.

The amount of times I've thought of looking at other options only to remember recurrent training in HKG is coming up, i'll have another FOC in a few months etc. etc. It's addictive I tell you

Palms, i know what ya mean. I'm not about to let someone else take away the fun of making my decision for me, I just thought I'd throw that question out there. A lot of interesting perspectives though.

Two ideas in particular keep popping up in my mind. One being a New Zealand trip spending the entire time exploring the North and South Islands, and the other being a city-hop around alot of the smaller towns that AS/QX serve in the west and state of Alaska. I could really hit more than one per day all free, camp out, explore parts of the US I've always wanted to, and see some amazing country. Hmmm...........
