    Default Departure Tax

    Hi!

A couple of days ago i was "forced" to pay a departure tax at the Phnom Penh (PNH) airport - 25 USD.
1 year and a half ago the same thing happen when i was at the Caracas (CCS) airport - almost 60 USD!

Do we (ID ticket holders) have to pay departure taxes?

    Tks!

    Regards from LIS

Most times it is already included in the ticket but some places do charge an airport tax.
When I flew from BRU back in 1993, I had to pay a tax and I almost did not have enough because I was not expecting it.

Many, in fact most, taxes are ticketable (meaning they are collected at the time the ticket is issued). There are, however, several that are not and are collected, from commercial and staff travelers, at the airport. Very few taxes exempt ID/ZED tickets, so you should assume the tax will apply.

I just returned from HYD on LH using a ZED ticket. I learned that HYD airport recently implemented UDF (User Development Fee) of INR 875 (approx $17) for all international departures. My ZED ticket was issued after the fee went in but it did not include the new fee. LH would not give me the boarding passing without showing the receipt of paying the UDF at a designated counter.

I always check in advance and also keep some local cash in hand just in case. BTW, there were no currency exchange available near the ticketing counters but only available past security near the boarding gates. If one did not have local currency, I am not sure how it is handled. No Credit Cards accepted either.

It's all a big rip off.
Take a look at Heathrow ... the most expensive departure taxes in the world and they do not have enough funds to invest in snow equipment?!
Government or BAA ... what a farce !
