Default Best time of year to non-rev to Hong Kong

    Hello Everyone,

I would like to head to Hong Kong during late Oct/early Nov. I did Japan that same time frame last year and the laods crossing the Pacific that time of year were great. Just wondering whether late October early November are good times of year to visit Hong Kong (load wise). If they are not when is it easist to non-rev to HKG. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

Chepos, I am there right now and loads have been good, at least on Delta. November might be a better time to see Hong Kong as right now the air pollution is VERY bad, it is also humid and about 95 degrees. Let me know, I could return again for some better photo's if the pollution is lower.

I do not know how loads are in November but I would expect if Japan was good Hong Kong should be fine.

Heading back tomorrow morning with very good looking loads.

Post if you have questions, I might be able to help but have only been here for 3 days and am no expert. Nick would probably answer some though.

3 days, yikes! You are going to be so tired by the time you get to the US. Hope you enjoyed your time.

One thing for me is I work nights so there is only about a 2 hour time shift between day time in Hong Kong and night time in Utah. So, I worked all night Thursday, took a plane Friday then slept half the way here and stayed up the last half so when I arrived at my hotel around Midnight on Saturday I was ready for bed and everything worked out sleep wise for Hong Kong. Hopefully things work the same way on the way back as I am giving myself 1 day to recover.

I will work on a trip report hopefully during one of the flights and post it.

Yea Sandby. Well last night delta was showing something like 21/18 in business and -15/30 for coach for the HKG to NRT flight, with 7 people on standby the business was looking good.
Next morning after arriving at the airport the main page showed 22/22 in business and -21/11 in coach but on the airport list showed 4 and within 1/2 hour that dropped to 1. I had 5 people in front of me on the standby list. Maybe there was some type of weight restriction for the business numbers to change so much.

While I was waiting Brian (spongebue) showed up to get his ZED on Cathay Pacific and was issued a seat prior to me being told the flight was full. So, over to the Cathay Pacific desk with my ZED to check in. I also was issued a seat at the time of check in.

During this time I forgot all about the HKG to DTW on Delta, so ran over to check on that flight and it also left full.

So right now we are sitting in the airport waiting for the HKG to SFO Cathay Pacific flight, 5 1/2 hours to go. Hopefully nothing changes there.

Good luck, hope you make it on CX to SFO. Never flown on CX myself but I have heard the cabin service is top notch.

    Regards.

I flew CX from FRA on my way in. They really are quite awesome. Seats are a little different, haven't decided if I like them or not (the recline controls the butt of the seat, not the back) but they have great AVOD, a power plug in each seat, very good crew, and they even had a few bottles of drinks by the galley to take if you got thirsty outside the beverage service! Probably the best airline I've ever flown in Y, now that I think about it.

Hey Brian, did you make it back home? Sorry I missed you to say bye in SFO but once through imigration I saw the time was 12:22 and I had a 1pm flight I needed to try and make, which I barely made, but I am home.

I really hated the CX seats with the bottom that slid forward/back. After using the pillow to support the lower back it was much more comfortable.

Also, as Brain mentioned, they had an on demand video system in coach so you can watch what you want when you want.

Best thing about the CX flight, they had seats for us.

Yup! I was going to try that SFO-LAS-ORD route, but that SFO-LAS flight was really badly delayed, so I don't think I'd have made that 12-minute connection for sure - I doubt that it was the same plane with that kind of time. I tried one ORD flight, didn't really come close, and the next one looked worse. Then I asked when it was due to arrive, and he told me 9:01. Since my MSN flight would have left at 9:00 if I was fortunate enough to even get a seat, I called SY to see if they had a seat on their SFO-MSP flight that night, which I just thought to see if it even existed when we landed in SFO. Wide open. I'm now at my parents' house doing some laundry and getting a quick nap before my 7:00AM departure to go MSP-ORD-MSN. I think I'm technically 100 miles short of going around the world, but that will be fixed tomorrow :P

Oh, and it dawned on me that August 31 2011 was literally the longest day of my life - basically went through it twice :P
